Concrete that will have to wait until later for more! I am on a short turnaround back to Dessau in the morning for the closing of Algen/Schutt/CO2 at Zeeck. There was a 2 week extension on the exhibition but it's time to end and turnover the space for the next really cool thing!

Our cement contains epoxies, flow enhancers, and "fly ash", which is made from "clinkers". I have a vague idea of what "clinkers" are... because clinkers are kind of a vague thing. We discussed if clinkers and slag were the same thing. We think we made very fine Schlackbeton.

It was then time to mix and pour our cement! We are doing a special quick-drying formula so we can take the pieces home today. As a decorative aggregate, we are using fine black quartz. It shimmers in the light ✨️

The Circus of Metal at the Festival was made by local children during the school break workshop earlier this year. I especially enjoy this dude - he's obviously inspired by der Abstrakter, Schlemmer's self-insert, but isn't any kind of copy. I love to see the Triadic characters still living today!

I was able to get things assembled and coated and mold release quickly and had some time to wander the workshop. I had a sneak peek of some of the things I'll experience at the "Touch the Bauhaus" tour next week and visited with a few lil guys I met at Bauhaus Fest

We also had a precut assortment of very tiny pieces to assemble for the pendant. The instructions were incredibly confusing for me in that situation, but I made something that worked out good for the casting and think I will be satisfied with it when I unmold it later

First we cut foam shapes and glue them into a paperboard box. This becomes the mold for the liquid concrete. Everything that is built up in the form will be a hole in the finished piece. It's like the 3D version of a photo negative haha

Heute ist Betontag!! Waleed Shahid Chaudhry, an architect from Berlin, has designed a method of small and quick concrete casting. We will be making architectural-inspired plant holders and pendants. Instead of putting a loop on mine, I will get to finish it as a lovely tabletop model

I found the jazz band that played Bauhausfest and they do a weekly night at a bar here in Berlin... ...a weekly 1940s swing night 😪 20s cats have all seen Dr Mabause and know to leave the cripple to her blunt rips. Those 40s guys, though, wanna pick you up and toss you around the dance hall.
