A familiar story for anyone who follows @volts.wtf. “The Chronicle spoke to more than half a dozen grid experts…to try to understand why Texas’s notoriously unreliable grid had a remarkably reliable summer. The answer was unanimous: solar panels and batteries.”

Texas shattered energy demand records this summer. Here's why the grid held up.
Texas repeatedly broke electricity demand records this summer, but ERCOT avoided emergencies as booming solar and battery capacity helped keep the grid stable.

Honda is a major employer where I live, and for the first time in my life I'm genuinely concerned for their long term future. Yes, the Prologue is a bit mid, but a soso EV is still far more desirable than anything you have to refuel with fossil fuels

Good morning with good news: New Mexico slashed its fossil fuel electricity from 81% in March 2016 to 41.7% in 3/2026! 39-point drop in 10 years! How? Wind & solar jumped from 18% of NM's power in 3/2016 to 58% in 3/2026! Solar was 20.7% in 3/2026; 15.6% in 3/2025 & 2.6% in 3/2016. #energysky

It's hard to overstate just how bad the air quality is today in the Great Lakes region. One monitor in SW Columbus hit an *all time* high AQI of 554 due to PM2.5 levels. Literally off the charts! And this afternoons ozone numbers are at levels not seen since the early 80s! #airquality #wildfire
Bar graph showing Air Quality Index numbers for a monitor in SW Columbus, Ohio. AQI is supposed to top out at 500 but the wildfire smoke that was transported into the area made numbers blow past what was considered to be the upper limit

NEW from us: China's traffic-related air pollution levels dropped sharply after the Hormuz crisis, as fuel consumption fell and EV use surged. This is more evidence that the fall in China's oil import isn't just inventory drawdown but real consumption cuts. 🧵

Even if you love classic cars, it’s important to be realistic about how far car safety has come in the last 30 years. In a modern car, you could walk away from a 40 mph crash with a few bumps and bruises. In a classic, that crash might be fatal. m.youtube.com/watch?v=iAFc...
