Major Hesgeth is the biggest failure that has come out of the US military in a long, long, long time. I am glad my service was over before he took "command" (and I use that term loosely).

Anisota / dame(dot)is / bsky38 / and more Using LLM's and coding and moderation on their websites and promotes their gen-ai work for hire. Mostly undisclosed unless you dig for the info -y tangled.org/pds.dad/infl... dame.is dame.is/available anisota.net/profile/did:... bsky.app/profile/did:...
Anisota posts We do use AI within software development and moderation processes where appropriate, reasonable, and safe. This is true of Bluesky as well! Our Bluesky wrapped experience was original and not 'vibe coded' like that other person (they used ours 2 weeks ago and then made a cheap knockoff)

Person says thanks for clarifying

Anisota replies, No problem, happy to answer any questions! We are incredibly intentional and thoughtful about how we engage with AI, we are not in the camp that other person is in where it's all positivity and being 100% in on AI. There's a lot wrong with the way many AI companies, governments, etc are doing things.Available for hire

Product Engineer & AI Enablement

I have been building software with AI agents nearly every day for the past two years, and was a power user of AI coding tools before Claude Code existed. AI-native development is my expertise, and it spans Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode, and Zed. Agents are in the loop from the first commit of every project. In early 2025 I started building Anisota, an indie Bluesky client that has grown to thousands of users, with AI-enabled features powered by Vercel's AI Gateway. More recently I’ve been growing a suite of AT Protocol developer tools that help other people build on the protocol with agents. Before this I spent a decade working in open-source protocols, B2B SaaS, and consumer apps with a focus on getting developers and non-developers to adopt tools they had not used before, through documentation, onboarding, developer relations, and community work.

Decentralization of communication is really the only way to avoid stuff like this happening since any platform that gets this big gets turned into a shareholder-driven techbro mess. Yay capitalism! Seeing as how I mainly belong to old MMO discords I doubt I'll be flagged, but who knows.

Well the thing that every sane person new was coming is here. Discord is a piece of shit but it's been a pain in the ass to try and drag people kicking and screaming towards using other things like IRC, forums, etc. I sure as shit ain't giving them my data, and I hope you don't either.

You may benefit from watching how @queenpib.com does their stream. They're a partner with Twitch but it's definitely not something that's a full time job status for them - there are ways to do it that don't have to lead inevitably to burnout.

"use waterfox", they say. yeah, let me get right on that. i hear DDT was also a pretty remarkable pest control agent that was widespread pretty much everywhere. wonder why we stopped using that
The sheer fact that people want to actively have these fixes dropped because of LLM involvement is the very definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face. And what’s worse is the attitude and vitriol that accompanies it, as if logic no longer has a place and only emotions matter because understanding that the world is more than black and white is too complicated.

And if learning about this and the Harry Potter sex cult is fascinating, we highly recommend people check out the entire TESCREAL movement. It will offer so much enlightenment on why things are the way they are right now and let us all focus on ways to stop it from continuing (such as stopping AI).

We all know they are tiresome goobers, but a lot of folks choose them because they are backed with money. This lets them pretend to be competent and flood the zone with nonsense. If we want that to change, we all need to make smarter choices about who we support with our time and money.

Because people support their products, if you want the honest answer. For example: I run a web, email, and cloud hosting business. Been in IT for 25+ years now. Software engineer, sysadmin, help desk, etc. But I constantly lose out to people Like That because folks go to the easy answer - money.

It is fascinating to hear from people we know offline about Bluesky. A majority of them have tried it, but near universally they left because of the behavior of the staff. And these people are not computer touchers; they are average folks who checked it out because a friend suggested it.

This business is strongly anti-AI. We know the harms, the ecological disaster in the making, the cognitive decline it causes, and the sheer level of fascism it pushes. So why in the world, Bluesky users, would any of you who are pro-AI come in trying to spew your TESCREAL garbage at us? Why?

@aphedges@hachyderm.io @paulshryock@phpc.social We've hired multiple experienced app developers who have spent months working on modernizing the Messaging app and carefully reviewing it. Why not look at the actual process of porting and code review? https://github.com/GrapheneOS/Messaging/pulls?q=is%3Apr+is%3Amerged In addition to our usual manual code review, we now heavily review our changes with AI models. Many valid issues are reported in between the hallucinations and other nonsense. It takes additional time to confirm which issues are real and address it.

A good number of them cited Bluesky as the reason they have dropped social media altogether. With Twitter's failure they were already annoyed, came here on the suggestion of a friend, and feel it's just the same stuff all over again. They don't like how the staff treats the users. Telling, really.

The most telling point to me was that a lot of them like to cite things such as transphobia, a hostile staff culture (like Jay's "waffles" or multiple staff members' attacks on the userbase), and an unnerving worship of AI. Again: Not computer touchers. This is organic to the community they saw.

A lot of this gets lost in the pivot around whether the machine is meaningfully thinking, and I think a lot of people in today's conversations are pretty sure it is not.

But I think there's a lot of reason that people would resist the idea that the machines are thinking exactly because that would very much challenge our idea of ourselves and what makes us all unique in the world.

If that's the case, I'd tell people that they are unique and valuable regardless of what a machine does. I'd also add there's nothing wholly conclusive about the situation, but it does seem that the measures for reasoning are a moving target in popular discussion

At this point Linux as a whole is an issue and the best we can do is harm reduction. For that, I recommend Gentoo. At least they're hardline no-AI in everything they can control.

We can't suggest an apt-based one, but Gentoo at least has a no-AI policy for what they can control and the distribution is quite stable. Plus you can get away from SystemD, which is always a bonus.

Economics educated person here - this is exactly true. So-called "classical" economists (the dominant kind) have ruined the field. Economics is supposed to be the study of human behavior under scarcity (in short). Not a bunch of numbers with no relation to reality. Yet they are the policy makers.

First, I've been a system administrator for 25 years across multiple platforms. I've had to deal with many DDoS attacks over my time as one. With all due respect back, remember that last time they started with "it was a DDoS," they later admitted it was internal systems going haywire.
000
Bear Den Hosting @bear-den.org · 17/08/2026
"Distributed Denial of Service" In short, it is when an attacker overwhelms a service (such as Bluesky) by using all of their resources, leaving none available for actual users. However, in Bluesky's case, they often use the term as an excuse to try to deflect blame away from their use of AI.
010
Bear Den Hosting @bear-den.org · 17/08/2026
Not to mention it's a blatant lie. They blame a DDoS for it but then also admit to vibe coding the entire stack. I know which is more likely, especially for something like Bluesky. If anything, it was another internal "DDoS" caused by the vibe coding.
