So many tech people seem to see the conflict between parenting and work as one in which work is the natural and moral victor. If you’re going to automate an aspect of your life, why wouldn’t it be the meetings rather than the spending quality time with your teenager?!

Quotes: "during our period of study (1993-2024), mechanisms designed to regulate spending tended towards input control and short-term decision-making, struggled to support strategic investment and often failed to deliver sustained improvements in outcomes."

This statement by UEFA on FIFA attempting to sell off the World Cup gave me goosebumps, what a statement - the beautiful game deserves no less “As so long as Europe has a voice, it will never be for sale.”

City AM issues broadside against flood of AI slop being submitted by writers for its pages: "if you can’t be bothered to write it, why should anyone be bothered to read it?" www.cityam.com/there-should...

There should have been an op-ed here but you filed AI slop
City AM's inbox is drowning in AI pitches. Anna Moloney, who spends her days copy and pasting them into detection software, has had enough.

It is indisputable that Brexit has been an economic disaster, and notable that none of its political architects have paid any price.

This article by Sebastian Payne, Times columnist, leader writer and wannabe politician, is so very revealing * does not know last auction got >6GW of wind * thinks AR5 issues included grid constraints * invokes cheaper-than-renewable energy, but won't name it Mere details! 1/2

Vertical rows are the agrivoltaic winner! “The vertical panels produce slightly less electricity—but with higher value, as generation peaks coincide with morning and late afternoon demand…The crops don't seem to mind the presence of solar panels and they like the wind protection they provide.”

The intrinsic bullshit problem on.ft.com/4nWq8v3
Hallucinations are a very hard problem to fix because of the probabilistic nature of how these models work,” said Amr Awadallah, a former Google executive and founder of Vectara, a generative AI agent start-up. “You will never get them to not hallucinate.”

If I say to you 'I want a pony in my flat, but I don't believe that I will have to clean up its shit, spend anything on feeding it or in any way change my lifestyle to accommodate it', which is essentially what the voters Downing Street obsesses over say about immigration, should you get me a pony?

In the past decade (early 2015-early 2025), at least 238 people have been killed and a staggering 71,000 structures have been destroyed by wildfire in California alone. That death toll is greater than cumulatively in *all* California earthquakes over nearly the past century.

The Chinese competition is what is shuttering British car factories, not green targets. When it was obvious the world was going to go electric, some car companies gambled it wouldn’t happen and now their workers are paying the price for that bad bet.
