Follow the attached links for a good time. Well, maybe not a good time? But like, an unsettled 'Holy shit that was the most satisfying weirdness I've read in a long time' time.

As someone who likes dipping into pop culture every now and then, this was a great watch. "A lot of people were asking was this written by AI. *clears throat, look of awkward discomfort* And unfortunately I do think that AI would have done better."

My secondhand conversational takeaway: Slasher film genre as sexual kink; kinks are an interesting aspect of adult sexuality; therefore Camp Miasma explores 'Slashers are inherently misogynistic' vs 'This is my queer kink, why would I denounce that?' Also a radical stripping away of the male gaze

“She had nightmares in which everyone but her knew the secret of who to be. In these dreams she’d walk from person to person, often familiar faces from school, begging them to tell her [...]” “Chrysalis” by Santiago Wilson Heredia, new flash fiction out today at OKD: buff.ly/SI0iDwk
The background of the image is a collage of grainy photos of countrysides, namely valleys and rivers. The foreground is made up of 80s-like translucent blocks and ovals that are colored dark magenta, blue, and green. Hanging from the top of the image and into the center is a chrysalis with water droplets on the outside. The bottom left section of the image shows a faceless woman with a happy face stamped on her head walking to the right, head down. Sad Jack stands in front of her as if leading her.

I've written a horror novella that's set over an August bank holiday. A lot of the feedback I've received from (British) beta readers is about clarifying the bank holiday is fictional. To me, all bank holidays feel fictional. What even are these?

How do you figure out if Author X is 'too big to comp'? A key metric (apart from 'Is it Suzanne Collins or Stephen King?') seems to be sales, but I'm not sure how to find that info for short story authors? #Writing #WritingCommunity

This is increasingly true of weird studies(tm) that just use the fiction as case studies for ontology or climate change. Writing about weird fiction should be poetics as much as it is anything else

‘In Love With The Moon’ by Antonio Rubino
Illustration and shades of blue, black and white. A frog stands on the bank of a lake, muscular and upright like a naked man, playing upon a harp whose arch is made of vertebrae. Across the lake, the moon hangs in the sky, a beatifically calm feminine face.

One of my August book buys. The intro discussed a lot of the topics I felt weren't covered in-depth on my degrees, so it's definitely working in the area I'm trying to target. Seems very useful.

One piece of writing I'm very happy with is coining 'wycce' in place of 'witch' The latter has visual connotations. Cinematic connotations. The former is darn near Middle English 'wicche' and Old English 'wicce', but different *enough* to dodge the Halloween. That's important in a medieval setting

The only *guaranteed* piece of craft advice I can give -- I mean the advice that is universally applicable -- is that if you kill many other writers and eat their scribere gland (roughly the size of a black-eyed pea, so be careful not to damage it) then your prose will improve immensely
