hi everyone, sorry for having to do this but i’m facing a bit of a dental emergency as one of my molars broke and now there’s only like a third left of the tooth. i don’t have insurance and i can’t afford to get my teeth examined and removed/fixed, i would appreciate any help towards this goal […]

why are my mozzarella sticks so complex

three mozzarella sticks on a paper towel. one is twice as long as it should be and slightly bent, so it looks like a radical symbol. the sticks are arranged to look like the square root of -1

its cool that cheese comes in balls, sticks, squares, and cubes. Higher-dimensional dairytopes remain an open research question, but our best and brightest are on it

A sketch page of an anthro space fox bounty hunter with a baseball bat weapon. Poses include leaping through a cityscape, bringing in a caught bounty, taking off her jacket, sitting and looking at the stars, holding her bat over her shoulders with a grin and stepping on some beat up enemies.

it seems to have only broken after the last upload, so it's at least not currently broken in vrchat. i really wanted to make my bones squimshable though

cotton candy derg ΘΔ @barkshark.xyz · 02/10/2026

not 100% sure it's related, but unity spits out "floating point division by zero" errors for all the body shaders when i export a test avatar. i'll have to tinker with it after i take a shower

110

cotton candy derg ΘΔ @barkshark.xyz · 02/10/2026

actually that didn't fix it at all. wtf is unity doing!?

110

cotton candy derg ΘΔ @barkshark.xyz · 02/10/2026

oh the mesh went missing somehow. i can just slap it back in, but why the hell would unity just remove a mesh?

this method doesn't work for everything though. it caused jpeg artifacting on the hair, but i think it's because it has a lot of gradients

messing around with compression on the desktop version now and it turns out i can crank the res to 4096 (double default) and turn on crunch compression. it ends up being nearly a third of the size at 1.1 M (2.7 M original) while still looking really good

texture settings with max size set to 4096 and crunch compression turned on with a quality of 100%. the resulting size is 1.1 MiB

okay, that's pretty good

Except from a Wikipedia article:
During the 2001 Microsoft antitrust case, the names MICROS~1 and MICROS~2 were humorously used to refer to the companies that might exist after a proposed split of Microsoft.

cotton candy derg ΘΔ @barkshark.xyz · 02/10/2026

didn't know there was an option to change the texture res for specific platforms, so now i still have all the doodads on the quest version with slightly crunched textures while the desktop version is unaffected :3

100

cotton candy derg ΘΔ @barkshark.xyz · 02/10/2026
