Uninterested in leading a pile-on but no, AI does not “have access” to everything ever published. Not archival material, obviously, but not secondary material either. Nor across times nor languages. AI is not human knowledge personified. It’s exactly not that, in fact. It’s not even a search engine.

I’m looking to build out my methodological reading list. Who are some of the “can’t miss” thinkers, and what are some of the most reliable primers you would recommend for reading up on feminist and / or postcolonial theory? (Or related approaches!)

Years ago, I was told that Ancient Greeks did not sacrifice fish, with the exception of tuna. I think the assumption was that the Greeks sacrificed any red meat, and tuna is a particularly red or bloody fish. Is this true? Can anyone working on sacrifice chime in? #ClassicsBluesky #AncientBluesky

No one says to legit business owners, "hey I see there's an underground market selling toxic knock-offs of your product: how will you incorporate the toxic product AND protect your customers against its harms?" But apparently it's fine to make this suggestion to educators with respect to AI.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court allows the Trump administration to move forward with the abolition of the Department of Education. It gives no explanation for its order. All three liberals dissent. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25... From Sotomayor's dissent:
Lifting the District Court’s injunction will unleash
untold harm, delaying or denying educational opportunities
and leaving students to suffer from discrimination, sexual
assault, and other civil rights violations without the federal
resources Congress intended. The majority apparently
deems it more important to free the Government from paying employees it had no right to fire than to avert these very
real harms while the litigation continues. Equity does not
support such an inequitable result.
* * *
The President must take care that the laws are faithfully
executed, not set out to dismantle them. That basic rule
undergirds our Constitution’s separation of powers. Yet today, the majority rewards clear defiance of that core principle with emergency relief. Because I cannot condone such
abuse of our equitable authority, I respectfully dissent.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

This is what revisionist history looks like, in real time. And this also is why it might appear that archaeologists and historians have to dig deep to discover the existence of powerful women and marginalized groups -- because their legacies are so often erased.

I’ll be sharing some of my research on epichoric Maenad myth in Argos in what is looking to be a very interesting #AIASCS Myth panel tomorrow morning (Sunday, 8:00am)! It is early, but I’ll have slides *and* a handout. Please consider joining us!
Screen shot of a title slide for a Power Point presentation. Text at the top of the slide reads: “SCS 2025 | Philadelphia, PA | Sunday, January 5 | Myth”. Below is a background image of bacchic celebrants and the title, which reads: “Arriving from Elsewhere: Reconciling Maenad Myth and Argive History”. The name of the presenter, Stella J Fritzell and her contact information is printed below. In the bottom left is a reference for the background image and its license: IDAI 1080121.A screenshot of a conference program agenda for the panel “SCS-70: Myth”, which is a hybrid panel to take place from 8:00 am to 11:00 am in Salon I. Alice Gaber will speak first on an ecocritical reading of Greek myth, followed by Stella Fritzell on Maenad myth and Argive history, then Katherine Hsu on the architecture of “kleos” in myth, and finally Collin Hilton on allegorical uses of myth in Neoplatonism.
