Gendered violence is a systemic cultural and societal problem. And when one of these cases boils to the top, you can see that in how many survivors come forward to explain how similar their experiences are, in ways both big and small.

Fuck ChatGPT flyers. The future is broadsheets.
A crowded broadsheet with way too many fonts. It says:

This Nikole Hannah-Jones discourse has jumped the shark. What was supposed to be a vulnerable story about a Black family navigating the public education system became an indictment of NHJ’s parenting and, I can’t go for that. No can do.

it’s a precarious thing to publish writing about parenting (&, thus, your children). especially when they’re teens. they can engage the text and consent to or veto certain content. but they don’t yet understand the longterm implications of publication. and neither does the parent, tbh.

I will say, as someone born in 1979, who was latchkey from age 8, never had homework checked, flamed out academically from 6th-11th grade & got myself on track just long enough to be admitted to college… some attitudes re:the role of the schools in children’s’ education are generational & familial.

okay we saw a spotted ratfish and it's JUST AS WEIRD as it sounds. And if you look it up, it's crazy. "Cephalic tentaculum." Males tiny vs. Big females. Crazy blue-green eyes. Poison spine. This fish has everything.
spotted ratfish washed up on a PNW beach. It has a long tail and enormous blue green eyes. view of the mouth, which is madness. Its closest relatives are rays and sharks. It can hang out at depths of up to 3K feet.

A story about an Eel
A woman was once passing by Letterloc Lake, Letterloc, Newport, Co Mayo, and she was attacked by a great big eel which was lying in the reeds by the lake shore. This woman was wearing a bright red flannel petticoat. She ran from the eel and the eel used to put its tail in its mouth and jump and in this way he kept up with the woman. The eel was just closing up on the woman when the flannel petticoat became unloosed. The eel at once attacked it and flittered it to pieces. Then it fell asleep on the pieces of the petticoat. The woman met some men to whom she told her story and she directed them to the place. They found the eel fast asleep and they killed it.

Every year on this day I recall the awful moment when Frasier's producer Maggie Blanc phoned to tell me that the show's co-creator David Angell and his wife Lynn were on the first plane to hit the towers. A week later the Advocate asked me to write about David for their 9/11 issue. (1/2)
David Angell sitting in Martin's chair on the Frasier set.A photo of an article in the Advocate. There's a smiling picture of David Angell. The heading reads: "A creator and executive producer of Frasier is remembered by his colleague Joe Keenan. The text of the article reads: One day in the Frasier writer’s room we were toying with the idea that Niles, insolvent and desperate during his epic divorce from Maris, might stoop to writing a quickie self-help book, the sort that shamelessly flatters its readers in the hopes of achieving best-sellerdom. We needed a title for it, something both punchy and pandering. As we were all calling out uninspired suggestions I glanced over at David Angell. He smiled to himself then, adopting a look of foot-stomping petulance, said, “It’s Not Your Fault, Dammit!’ by Dr. Niles Crane.”
We laughed at its ludicrous perfection, or at least those of us who’d heard him did. David was very quiet, very soft-spoken. Unlike many humor writers who like to think out loud (making it hard for others to think at all), David mulled each comedy challenge in silence, speaking only when he felt he had something good, which he pretty much always did. He brought the same quiet wryness to his conversation and his remarks were all the funnier for his murmured, throwaway delivery. He understood, to paraphrase Dorothy Parker, that a boy’s best friend is his mutter.
He was a wonderful writer, always smart, always witty, the dialogue pitch perfect. Sometimes in the room his usual low-key drollness would give way to bursts of inspired goofiness that were both hilarious and incongruous, like a humanities professor interrupting his lecture on Middlemarch to share his Porky Pig impression. Most of all he understood that a good show wasn’t about jokes; it was about people, and telling stories about them that involve us and surprise us and make us need to know what happens next.
As good a writer as David was, he was an even better person, unfailingly kind and generous. I’ll always be especially grateful for the su…

from parliament.uk/about "Three-line whips
Important divisions are underlined three times - a 'three-line whip' - and normally apply to major events like the second readings of significant Bills.

Defying a three-line whip is very serious, and has occasionally resulted in the whip being withdrawn from an MP or Lord. This means that the Member is effectively expelled from their party (but keeps their seat) and must sit as an independent until the whip is restored."
