I decided to try listening to a new narrative podcast this morning and the narrator is talking to me in second person. TIL I reeeeally don’t like that in a podcast. 🥴

i've been streaming this series with my nana in the room. at first she wasn't interested, bc she finds shows difficult to follow these days, but now she's very much locked in. lol

aw. i'm 3 episodes deep into "a different world" and i love it. it really is meant to pass the torch to these young people. it's an ADW for a streaming generation. i can see it making HBCUs look as attractive to Gen Z/Alpha as the original did for Gen X.

I will say, as someone born in 1979, who was latchkey from age 8, never had homework checked, flamed out academically from 6th-11th grade & got myself on track just long enough to be admitted to college… some attitudes re:the role of the schools in children’s’ education are generational & familial.

i have a whole other tangent about public schools, resources, neighborhood, segregation (racial, economic, intellectual). but that’s… for another day, perhaps.

it’s a precarious thing to publish writing about parenting (&, thus, your children). especially when they’re teens. they can engage the text and consent to or veto certain content. but they don’t yet understand the longterm implications of publication. and neither does the parent, tbh.

neagley feels a little like the 1984 Helen slater version of supergirl. which i loved. even though it was like… a spinoff from the very best Superman franchise and it suffered both from that and from the need to feminize the character/storyline.

as someone who has watched the first two "why did i get married"s like... 10 times each? this third one is... off to a painful start. 11 minutes in and it's just been... greetings. just watching people hug and (re)introduce themselves.

i'm introducing my daughter to "raising helen," which up until like last month, was completely unavailable anywhere. not streaming and no on vhs or dvd. now it's on prime. i've always wanted to show her this, and now it's a hayden panettiere tribute watch.

I think “tyrant” should’ve been called “hangman,” and i think bey should’ve let dolly parton write the whole song. the hangman part is the best part.

The Library is devastated to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton, a music legend and titan of children's literacy. Her Imagination Library program has earned multiple Library Literacy Awards and, in 2018, she visited us to donate its 100 millionth book to our collection and host a story time. 🦋❤️

nearly six years after working there, i still love the '1A' theme song on WAMU. it used to give me chills and an adrenaline jolt like someone had just fired a starter pistol. i rarely hear it anymore, but whenever i do, the body remembers.

so season 4 of reacher is my favorite since season 1, and it’s heartening to be reminded that a series can bounce back after lackluster seasons.

one of my absolute favorite things about reacher is the immediacy with which he he gets all up in folks’ business. he never cares, and that makes him care so much, for *exactly* as long as it takes to hook up with someone and sort shit out. it’s my favorite kind of formulaic formula.

I've said this myriad times before, but we need a new, good film on Ida B. Wells. In addition to the fact that her story is so interesting, I need a break from the long monotony of white journalists centered in film.

i still think about it. a year later, he’d open “a time to kill” *and* “the long kiss goodnight.” bro was on an historic run in the ‘90s and early ‘00s. he was also amazing in the underrated “changing lanes” in 2002.

I’ve lived in nc for 6+ years now. i think i can confidently say that i am near-invisible to the men here. i can’t tell if if it’s age, attitude, aesthetic or the romance gods (ghosts?) of the state rejecting (protecting?) me. but i do not turn heads here. not complaining!. just observing.

I thought she was good in the Apple+ series, Truth Be Told. I think that’s because it was a more subdued (or… grounded?) performance than I’m used to seeing her give.
