On the day
Tim Curry died, we were still tending to our Dolly-sized wounds.
It felt cruel and fated, somehow, that two people larger than lite could leave us so close together.
Two people who, in very different ways, gave us permission to become more ourselves.
To embrace the soft, the strange, the over-the-top; the parts of ourselves we once thought we should tone down.
I'm not sure our hearts can take much more.
But I do know this:
For Dolly, we'll stay soft.
For Tim, we'll stay strange.
And we'll try to be as much ourselves as we can possibly be.

We found this circa 1920 oak pub stool at a flea market years ago. It gets used as an extra chair, a footstool, an easy place to do haircuts, occasionally a stepstool, and I'm sure a few other things.

Spent so many Friday nights and weekends on a bus as a teenager traveling the state with the band or for competitive speech. Spades only required a deck of cards, paper, and pencil. We were cutthroat but laughed a lot. The core group also cut across all the regular teenage cliques.
