AI didn’t “go rogue.” People connected a computer system they know can mess with another computer system in unpredictable ways to less advanced computer system and it messed with that computer system in unpredicted ways. As @tressiemcphd.bsky.social argues, don’t lose sight that *people* did that.

It is well past time for me to leave my job. I hate the corporate environment, and I REALLY don't want to work with AI anymore. I am just not sure how to find (paid) roles for my interests and background. I have SO many project and research ideas but I unfortunately need money to live, which sucks.

"AI turns everyone into tiny dictators". My sister said my new favorite way of describing the impact of sycophantic AI. It makes sense that the tech billionaires love it, given that they think it is normal to be surrounded by yes-men who tell them all their stupidest ideas are genius.

The stink of desperation is so strong.
Screenshot from an article: "If you're worried you're falling behind on AI, developer Sigrid Jin has some advice: Use AI so much that your monthly bill rivals your rent.

Why it matters: Jin argues that tokenmaxxing, the practice of using as many AI tokens as possible, is the best way to understand the value of AI. He would know: Jin said he used 50 billion tokens in a single year.

What they're saying: The "majority of people" aren't experiencing how much AI has to offer because they're using free or $20 subscription plans, Jin told Axios onstage Monday at the opening ceremony of Web Summit Vancouver, a major tech conference.

Those using basic versions of AI are missing out on the "higher intelligence" available through $200 plans, which he said produce clearer returns on the initial investment."

There is a big difference between "people who are 'scared' of AI and don't want to learn new things" and "people who have deep moral objections to AI's underpinnings, impacts, and the systems of power behind it." It's wild to me that institutions pushing AI adoption don't seem to understand this.

When faced with the exploitive reality of huge AI models, people often react with helplessness, comparing it to other exploitative industries (meat, fashion, etc) that they feel powerless to resist. But AI doesn't yet have society in a stranglehold and we still have the ability to reject it.
