“ME/CFS patients are deeply inconvenient.” George Monbiot on how people with #MECFS need long term support, but governments and insurers have an incentive to “brush it away” and dismiss patients leaving them “massively mistreated, maligned” and “blamed for their illness”.

Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Abandoned, dismissed and gaslighted: there is no excuse for the way ME sufferers have been betrayed | George Monbiot
Changes in guidance and science seem to have little impact on millions of devastated lives. It’s a social crisis playing out behind closed doors, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Definitely! I'm disabled and also allergic to many of them which will limit my options a fair bit. But any dog is good, especially rescues 💙

They really are! Mad, but lovely. I'm not able to have a dog either at the moment but hope to in the future. Probably not an airedale but you never know.

I had to go back and find a picture of my own dale's 11th birthday. We were mean humans and made her wait before she could take it! (only long enough to take a photo/video). I miss her so much.
An Airedale terrier with a short haircut, but bushy beard and legs. She is looking attentively at her human, waiting to be told she can eat the sausage on the yellow plate in front of her.

It's always a good day when an airedale pops up on my feed unexpectedly. And on their birthday too! Enjoy your day Lucy - I hope you get lots of treats 🎁 🌭 🎂

This is the perfect reason to build planes big enough for him to fit in. Add a removable lid and some goggles and it'll be perfect (despite looking slightly like a coffin!)

The not asking about PEM being delayed is a huge oversight... Particularly alongside the questions being mostly fatigue related. These could apply to almost any chronic illness. The point of a PEM scale is to try and split the ME ones out...

This reminds me of my dog burning her nose on a candle (outdoor one in a friend's garden) and trying to bite it back. I spent the next 20 minutes chasing her round with a bucket attempting to get her nose in there. She thought it was great fun but had no interest in the water at all.

Unfortunately we seem to be having this in the UK as well. I only hope that by bringing attention to the flaws in our society, some of them may ultimately be reduced somehow. But there are so so many people getting hurt along the way.

Billy Harris seems a strange one too. He won his first round match last year, has been playing well on grass and is ranked higher than almost all the other wildcards (bar Fery). I know they want to give some new faces a chance but it still seems odd.

Emma @autistic-me.bsky.social · 18/06/2026
Any idea why Billy missed out on a Wimbledon wildcard? Seems odd given that he won his first round last year, and is higher ranked than most of the others given. He's been playing well the last few weeks too! Seems weird.

I'd guess he's trying to empty his anal glands or scratch his bum for some other reason. That they know his name implies that he has an owner, so hopefully he can access vet care if needed.

This is how communities show up for each other. Do read this by Nicola Browne from Act Now👇
Highlighted text:

A group of literally hundreds of people has sprung into action, coordinating, donating, providing lifts for families to get somewhere safe for the night, bringing food to those who don’t want to leave the house, offering shelter, car seats, toys and arts supplies for children. Ordinary people from every background, community and colour are carrying out thousands of acts of care and repair, looking after people they do not know, and showing clearly that none of this is in their name.

What's even more confusing is it's often very different in different English speaking regions. Have a look how Americans pronounce van Gogh vs how English people do, compared to the original pronunciation. Obviously he was Dutch not French, but it applies to so many French words too.

It's so stressful for the first time though! Every time I thought I was done they'd ask me another question and I'd have to decide again. It's hard with auditory processing and anxiety and pressure and decisions. If I'd been lots of times I can understand it being good but ahh so much stress

I saw a patient last week with ME who in 2023 was told by the MECFS service to ‘get back to the gym’. She did 20 minutes, collapsed and hasn’t walked since. The advice is still out there, still wrong and the harm is real.

Stools are chairs with no back, like those often found in a bar or laboratory (as opposed to your lavatory 😂). A 'step stool' can also be used to stand on to reach high things, eg by children to reach the sink or countertop. Your type of stool is best not stood or sat on in my experience 😂 💩

Good morning. A regular reminder: a tiny few hoard staggering wealth and own much of the media, while millions struggle to survive. That’s not an accident. It’s a choice made by those in power. Tax wealth. Fund public services. Build an economy for everyone - not the 1%.

Stop telling those with #chronicillness exercise will cure them. Also, please stop implying they don’t want to get better when they explain exercise isn’t a medical treatment. Many of us were highly athletic and active before getting sick. Your telling us this causes great pain.
