On my way to MLA 2026 to participate in a round table (Critical Digital Humanities - 3:30pm on the 8th): let me know if you want to meet up! #MLA26 #MLA2026 (Yes, adding the official "I'll be presenting" picture to this post is super corny, but I stand by my decision!)

Colleges, universities, and secondary institutions all across the world are defunding Humanities programs. It’s up to us to continue the conversation that they are just as vital to our lives as any other program. Humanities are part of who we are. In fact, it is all we are.

Several studies for a CDC journal were purged without explanation before a judge’s order restored them. That's unacceptable.

Speaking only of the US context here: outside of libel/defamation concerns, there is no legal requirement for books to be true. PLEASE buy your mushroom books from a reputable publisher (who has *very* strong reputational incentives to publish accurate books, even without a legal requirement.)

I don't think "teach students how to use the models" is an inspiring slogan: a) because today's models aren't all that, and b) even if they were, that's just "teach them how to use Excel." But there are epistemic principles behind spreadsheets and LLMs — and we should def be teaching those.
