Someday, we might realise that LLMs are doing good in the world, that they are evolving toward ethical, reliable, sustainable solutions, and that people who use them are happier (try to read that sentence again without rolling your eyes). If that really happens, you could always change your AI policy. It will cost you nothing.

But if you let the slop in now, you may regret it forever… You may be forced to abandon your project.

On the other hand, if you refuse AI-generated contributions to your project right now, the worst very hypothetical regret you could ever have is "I should probably have done it sooner".

The conclusion is simple: If you are AI-agnostic, the pragmatic course of action is to strongly refuse any AI-generated contribution to your project.

Every time I do AI programming (NPCs not LLMs), at some point in the debugging process, I inevitably sound like an exasperated parent asking my little guys running around “Why are doing that?? I told you not to do that!” And then inevitably it turns out the problem was in fact my parenting. :(

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

i get why AI is so depressing to me. because covid already shrunk my world to almost nothing, where almost all of my life revolves around socializing and watching videos on the internet (which is being ruined by AI) and creating creative works through coding (which is being ruined by AI), often using open source tools and libraries (which are being ruined by AI)

i already had so little and now even that is being rotted away before my eyes

FWIW I don’t think that AI is an existential threat, nor on track to become one. I do however think that the leaders of the biggest AI companies, AI’s strongest boosters, and some of the folks who are most adept at using it to exploit others are actively hastening along OTHER existential threats.

Yeah it's called Eternal Skies. It's like a card game, you know like Magic the Gathering, but you play the computer and there's a story. It's like the old Pokemon TCG on game boy or the old Yugioh games on handheld. Or the 1996 MTG game but that's a bit of a deep cut. It's an under served genre.
