Ashles @ashles.bsky.social · 8hThere is a legend that Hemingway wrote the famous 6 word ultra short story 'For sale. Baby shoes. Never worn.' But 'Toilet exploded' is more efficient as a wild thrill ride, and is only 2 words, so it's better. (Hemingway didnt actually wrote 'Baby shoes' but that's another story) 010

Ashles @ashles.bsky.social · 05/10/2026It's utterly unreliable, something the AI uber fans completely refuse to accept. Its a just a tool to make them feel like they have a real friend who will say jolly things to them while knowing lots of stuff that may or may not be correct (that doesnt really matter) 020
Ashles @ashles.bsky.social · 05/10/2026One of the biggest problems with AI is that it tells you it can do things which it literally can't. So you try using it for what might be a genuinely useful application and then it fails and you ask why it has failed and then it says 'Oops sorry yes I told you I could do that but I actually can't'. 110
Ashles @ashles.bsky.social · 04/10/2026For anyone defending how brilliant AI is for everyone in everyday life, just remember what the actual plan is. It isn't something being given for free forever out of generosity. The more people grow to love it and rely on it, the more they will charge for it. 000

Ashles @ashles.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Agreed, I could never see RHPS as horror. I woukd be surprised at anyone describing it as such. But as you mention, a mad alien scientist luring a young couple to his scary castle during a thunderstorm to involve them in twisted experiments on corpses, might sound a bit like a horror. 010
Ashles @ashles.bsky.social · 02/10/2026That's what I find interesting about Horror as there arent really hard and fast rules that would comprehensively work all of the time. Some of the scariest Horrors dont have a drop of blood. Some of the goriest films aren't scary at all. 010
Ashles @ashles.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I probably split hairs on that one - I find Evil Dead 2 horror as, despite the comedy, I find it genuinely scary in places and it has proper horror moments. Cabin in the Woods I didn't really feel it as horror even in its goriest moments. But I accept it's totally arguable either way. 100
Ashles @ashles.bsky.social · 02/10/2026And nor would Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho, Saw, Hostel etc. But their argument is that if it is actual normal mortal human being(s) behind the killing/terror then, no matter how scary or bloody the events, it would be a thriller. I don't agree with it, but it seems a surprisingly common view 120
Ashles @ashles.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I think I mostly agree except I would class Alien as horror and Evil Dead 3 as prob not horror, more dark comic fantasy. Cabin in the Woods I'm on the fence about as it feels too much damn fun for a horror. I know many people who have a hard line that if it isn't supernatural, it can't be horror. 110
