Now that we're sufficiently soaked, the rain is departing soon from Minneapolis - expect some lingering mist/drizzle not picked up by radar after but accumulating rain should be done soon. #mnwx

Lots of people at Nicollet Open Streets despite the rain! So fun, especially because we normally are on a bike a block away so so many businesses we forget exist without this.
View looking south on Nicollet with lots of people filling the street and rain. Sidewalk art that says Hola. Me wearing a tiny flamingo inflatable hat.

Looks like maybe first round of rain could pass early (incoming) and a break in rain follows for Nicollet Open Streets. Fingers crossed. #mnwx

Unfortunately iffy weather for Nicollet Open Streets tomorrow. Looks like spotty showers closer to the beginning (morning through 11ish) and then more organized showers trying to edge in. Slow moving, so possibly with some luck they hold off until afternoon. #mnwx
Future radar around noon Saturday showing rain really close to or over Minneapolis.

Tornado forecasting had to start somewhere. In the 1880s, US Army Signal Corps meteorologist John Park Finley studied tornado patterns, built a network of observers and pioneered experimental tornado forecasts. Meet America’s first tornado forecaster: www.noaa.gov/heritage/sto... #NOAAHeritageWeek

Today’s Fall Equinox at 8:05 pm ET marks the start of astronomical fall in the N. Hemisphere and is when the Sun is directly over Earth’s equator. Now through the Winter Solstice, the Northern Hemisphere will receive less ad less direct sunlight as Earth continues along its tilted orbit.

Some light rain or sprinkles possible over the next couple of hours as some dying rain showers move north. It's a race against time for them - but either way another cool and damp day. Quite a shift from our intensely hot summer. #mnwx

It’s astonishing to see this, even though we saw it coming months ago. White = 10°F + above normal in the El Niño regions. Its immense! In the air, a regional warming of 10° is no big deal. But in the ocean it’s immense! Think about how hard it is/ how long it takes to cool/ heat your pool. 1/

So major whoops here caught by @dbrauer.net - we got about 1.5" on July 31 (0.2" btw 7/9-7/30), so my quoted post is inaccurate. However, August so far has seen 0.2" of precip at MSP and we average 3.6" for the month.
