My fave Phil Tippett fact is he invented something called go motion, which was basically stop motion but with added motion blur (the lack of motion blur is part of what gives stop motion its uncanny quality) CGI quickly made go motion irrelevant, but you can see it on the dragon in Willow (1988)

Today I learned about Norakuro, the Chaplinesque dog character whose hit strip established many of the formal conventions of manga in the 1930s and who also taught kids the importance of fighting to build the puppet state of Manchukuo :/

One of the only translated into English Norakuro strips. Norakuro is a bumbling but loyal stray dog from a broken childhood (apparently like his creator, Tagawa??) who ends up joining the military, which is made up of all dogs in this world. In the panel an officer dog is telling Norakuro to hit the enemy first as part of an all-out attack.

I read about this in the history of manga I'm slowly reading early this morning before work kind of erased my spirit. Things I have thought about today are coming back to me via a stack modus. Soon I'll start looking for oatmeal, and then feed the now just one cat, and then to bed, to oblivion
