I had a brilliant time presenting my first-ever poster on the first experiment of my PhD at #ASABSpring2026. It was such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and it was a pleasure meeting so many like-minded students all working on exciting projects in animal behaviour.

What I wish l'd known as a PhD student/ECR
Frequent rejections and failures are normal at all levels of academia
It's still networking even if it is with your peers!
Combining hands-on-parenting and academia is possible
Studying 'pure' research questions really can result in applied outcomes
You get to set your own career success criteria - only you, no-one else!
