Yes I agree (what I mean by income compression)

Am consistently impressed with the prevalence of lawn cutting robots in Europe vs the US Despite average US wages maybe 30-40% higher (though Finnish wages compressed on lower end which contributes to capital intensity)

Vox's Marina Bolotnikova argues rent control's design determines its harm: strict versions (SF) shrink housing supply, while looser laws with vacancy decontrol and new-construction exemptions—like California's 2019 cap—show no measurable supply loss. www.vox.com/the-highligh...

Renting in America can suck. Tenants deserve better solutions than rent control.
What rent control really means for housing in America.

I see people posting Guardian articles on X pretty frequently

Though the primary microblogging platform (and genuinely growing in adult share) is sadly just LinkedIn, about a third of adults having used it
010
Arpit Gupta @arpitrage.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
Pew's survey estimates it at 8% of US adult respondents use Threads
100
Arpit Gupta @arpitrage.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
That’s true, but those are clicks by users with accounts
100
Arpit Gupta @arpitrage.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
Yeah but I don't think it counts as a daily user unless you do actually click on it

Arpit Gupta @arpitrage.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
But people should do what they want; I'm not going to seriously try to shift anyone

Arpit Gupta @arpitrage.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
I switched over from X to here completely at some point, then it got annoying for me here and so I went back. Now I'm mostly there and happy; but occasionally check in
100
Arpit Gupta @arpitrage.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
Is there? People crosspost to Instagram, but I thought they only count users from people who actually click through to Threads (and have an account there)
100
Arpit Gupta @arpitrage.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
I don't know why I even got involved here; you claimed that microblogging services were all dying and being replaced by TikTok. I don't think that's true; Threads and X both seem to be doing well in users. Meanwhile this site is indeed dwindling

Arpit Gupta @arpitrage.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
Fair; the survey usage in the US is flat, while it's growing internationally

I typically stick to my following feed. But even on my "For You" feed I get what I engage with, and don't see any of that there.

We have survey evidence from Pew, etc. Pretty substantial shares of people still report being on Twitter in some capacity.

I didn't make any claim!

Arpit Gupta @arpitrage.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
I don't know what evidence you have for that. I see zero of that content there. It remains the main hub for discourse and discussion on the internet.

Setting aside my experience here has been much more negative than it ever was on X; the traffic has dwindled so much it isn't worth it

The penalties for outbound links are now gone

Arpit Gupta @arpitrage.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
True, and I'd love to see you all back on X making those points

The study in this paper is not nearly strong enough to support the claim and it's driving me nuts. Measured at the congressional district level the paper says it shifted the vote to Harris by 1.5 percent but it doesn't hold at the county level! Not particularly robust.

The basic tradeoff is rules vs discretion. I’m a fan of rules in general (I’d rather not have been in a position to make these choices!) so I like the attention there. But there are different rules that can be tried

Tim Collins for instance has emphasized this point (his formula = building cost/revenue * POIC + NOI/revenue * CPI). If you chain his formula back to 1990 or so you get some "overcharging." Pegging to this level would allow for temporary freeze + future adjustment rises.
