One thing I appreciated about Earthbound was just how much care was put into the concept of making it feel like a young 90s child’s notion of “going on an adventure” in the from the very start, and slowly expounding from that. I don’t think I could have really put that into words at the time.

When a group is demonized this way, the rhetoric must always ensure the violence is outward-facing - they can only ever be the enactors of violence, never its victims. The fact that the struggle for LGBTQ rights in Muslim countries is real and is undertaken by queer Muslims is never acknowledged.
