The US Attorney General confirms Maduro is being charged with "conspiracy to possess machine guns" - something Republicans usually call a constitutional right.
Pam Bondi: Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been indicted in the Southern District of New York. Nicolas Maduro has been charged with Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States. They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts. On behalf of the entire U.S. DOJ, I would like to thank President Trump for having the courage to demand accountability on behalf of the American People, and a huge thank you to our brave military who conducted the incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international narco traffickers.

"Maduro is a brutal authoritarian dictator," I wisely intone, as the corrupt demented paedophile US President violating Constitutional Law while operating a gestapo and concentration camps illegally arrests a foreign leader on charges which read like they were written on a paper placemat in crayon.

Three million people live in Caracas, five million in the metro area. It's one of the densest cities in South America. Remember this in the morning when they try to spin this as anything other than a cold-blooded attack on a major civilian center.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts. Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Columbia has a $14.8 billion endowment. They gave up all of this for $400 million in federal funding. And now that they've given all this up, we all know that Trump will keep demanding more concessions. They've sunk themselves when at any time they could have just said... no.

Heads up American #archaeologists there is a joint resolution proposing to end the protections of Marine Archaelogical Resources. Time to call your elected reps!
This proposal will negate a lot of our industry. This a Senate Joint resolution introduced earlier this week, titled A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management relating to "Protection of Marine Archaeological Resources".

The text of the resolution isn’t online yet, but you can track progress here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-joint-resolution/11/all-info

The resolution has been referred to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources by the Senate. Co-sponsored by Sens John Kennedy (R-LA) and Sen Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS). It will have to be voted out of Committee for full Senate approval, then move to the House. It’s not a done deal yet, but you can guess where it’s leading.https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/temporary-withdrawal-of-all-areas-on-the-outer-continental-shelf-from-offshore-wind-leasing-and-review-of-the-federal-governments-leasing-and-permitting-practices-for-wind-projects/

Good morning from Illinois, where I’ve been for the last few days for my grandmother’s funeral, still responding to urgent work emails, staying informed about and trying to push my R House rep to care about the Elon coup, and pretending like I’m not getting sick. Going home today, and I’m tired.
A piece of cream paper with a purple border features the portrait of a smiling older lady and a script font that reads “In Loving Memory…A Celebration of the Life Of”. The paper is surrounded by light pink roses, dark pink carnations, and magenta orchids.

Considering "Cultural Heritage" is in the NSF's DEI report as having no scientific value, we can expect museums & grants of archaeology, anthropology & history to die a sudden & painful death. Eliminating culture & history so people won't know where they came from.
