In local spaces, I've gotten a few compliments on my dead bounces and occasionally asked how I look for them. So I made a lil graphic of what I look out for! This applies to both Real and Vpins, the majority of my playtime is on VPX but I absolutely think this applies to both! Hope this is helpful!

The flippers of Monster Bash, with the left side colored to sections of the top of the flipper. Underneath is a legend that goes over what the colors mean.

red: The "Uhoh!" zone! Don't try to dead bounce here, its very risky at best, will do the silliest, saddest flop over to the other side. Try other saves. Note: If the flipper is raised, the tip of the flipper is great for passing it over to the other side!

green: The "Yippie!" zone! Leads to an ideal dead bounce! Don't panic flip, the ball will typically make its way to the other side and roll down at a pace thats easy to attempt a good shot. It also feels great!

yellow:The "Wild!" zone! You're usually good to dead bounce here too! but be careful as the trajectory could be a bit bouncier than the green zone, and depending on the layout, bounce into sling territory (Bad!).

purple: The ambiguous "What the hell!? I swear the ball hit the rubber there, why did it just slide off!?" zone! If the ball hits the inlane part and not the flipper, it usually doesn't bounce. Either get ready to flip on that side, or try shielding/cradling.

Twisted magicks taught to the world by The Dark Lord, an evil lich, claiming to have seen the errors of his ways. Everyone that uses the magicks weakens and corrupts, but it's so useful!

Koji Kondo (credited as Konchan) composed the game's five music tracks. Kondo had planned to use Maurice Ravel's Boléro as the title theme, as it perfectly matched its speed. However, Kondo was forced to change it in November 1985, late in the game's development, after learning that the piece was not yet in the public domain under Japanese law. As a result, Kondo wrote a new arrangement of the overworld theme within one day, which has become an iconic motif echoing throughout continued entries of the series.
