I do think that the social aspect of this—mathematics discoveries are commoditized and mathematicians are alienated from the outputs of their labor—has some pretty bad implications, even though I'm excited about the potential acceleration in research outputs.

I do think that we should be at least mindful of how we anthropomorphize AI because of those people with "AI girlfriends/boyfriends," but yeah it is kind of a losing battle and people change how animate words are all the time.

I guess my main claim is that emotional responses are not a system of inputs and outputs describable by a mathematical function. Emotions arise, imo, from state of constant adaptation in response to life/death situations, with a goal of self-preservation. Statistical models don't do that.

Mathematically/platonically, there exists a function which would recieve a person's identity as an input and it would output a statement that could make this person feel the most loved in under 3000 words. Does this function feel empathy for everyone?

There isn't really any response to stimulus that actual mathematical LLMs exhibit, because they do not adapt. Yeah they have a context window but that kind of "memory" is not the same thing biological organisms exhibit, which evolved to help animals avoid bad things and find good things.
