As catastrophically bad as you may think she is as a press secretary, this week's QAA podcast reveals that she's a QAnon true-believing lunatic ("Look how many times Trump took a sip of bottled water in the press conference, he's sending out a message") and actually far worse than you imagine.

Excited to announce my third novel will be coming at the start of 2028! We're doing a journey by foot through the wind-blasted ruins of post-Roman Britain - 3 characters thrown together and fleeing for their lives in a world falling into ruin. More soon! Link: www.thebookseller.com/rights/fonta...
A bookseller article: Fontana pre-empts Paul Cooper's Roamers in six-figure deal

Fontana has acquired Paul Cooper's historical novel Roamers in a same-day six-figure pre-empt.Forte said: “I already knew Paul as a brilliant narrator of history, so as soon as his novel landed in my inbox I was intrigued. I opened the manuscript straight away and didn't surface for air until I'd finished it a few hours later."

She added: “He is a masterful storyteller; as a reader you fully inhabit the rich world of Roamers, exploring its savage landscape in the company of the most enigmatic of protagonists.”Cooper said: “This novel is the culmination of more than five years of work, and I'm so excited it's found a home at Fontana. I was immediately drawn in by Rosanna's passion for the project, and I can't imagine a better publisher to bring it to the world."

White added: "This novel is so difficult to put down! I was as much fascinated by what the 'dark ages' would have been like as I was gripped by the story of these three individuals trying to survive in such dangerous, lawless conditions.”

Weird game of internet telephone where lots of people will insist that she "encourages women to drink in pregnancy" which is most definitely not what her book says

This is less a critique of Austen btw and more how her work gets adapted for a modern audience. I actually once read a really interesting article about how critics at the time read Pride and Prejudice through the lens of social commentary/satire much more than romance, but ofc I can't find it

Watching a lot of Austen adaptations while I'm in the newborn trenches and as a body of work it's striking how much romantic propaganda work they're doing for boring, grumpy men. Oh that guy who's actually pleasant to you and fun to be around? Probably secretly evil. Best stick with Mr Monosyllabic

"Many people prefer to believe the brutes and the sadists are responsible, largely because they are not like 'us,'" writes @omerbartov.bsky.social. "But modern genocide is the product of the technocrats, bureaucrats and cold planners of extermination, who don’t get their hands dirty."

How do human beings explain taking part in genocide? NAZA provides a chilling look | Omer Bartov
It’s easier to blame brutes and sadists for extreme violence. But as we see in the documentary, modern genocides are fueled by people who are uncomfortably recognizable

It's too late. I have already depicted myself as the detailed and ornate House Dudley graffiti in the Tower of London, and you as the poorly drawn House Boleyn scrawl

Toddler told me that he loved me for the first time yesterday evening, then walked through the front door this morning and announced "don't like mama". Parenthood truly is a land of contrasts

It feels strange to me then to make it a critique of people like Piker - who I'd say is probably one of the voices Fuentes is riffing on here! But Ganz might suffer from the same problem as me as not actually being all that clued into the online left bc the right is more his area of study.

Annie Kelly @annieknk.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Fuentes is def smart, but I actually watched that clip that Ganz is quoting and he's almost verbatim repeating critiques that I've heard lots of people on the left make about JD Vance and Dinesh D'Souza, namely that they're cowards who won't defend their multiracial families from their base

Does Nick Fuentes' voice sound really old-fashioned to anyone else? Like even just putting aside the content of what he's saying, he always reminds me of like a WW2 radio announcer. I'm not sure if it's a deliberate affectation or just me being a foreigner who's not really familiar with his accent

In order to reduce sibling rivalry we've introduced the new baby as an essentially tragic figure who's crying all the time bc he can't eat all the delicious foods the toddler can eat. I think its working but this morning the toddler solemnly told me "baby cryin cus e can't eat pineapple... Or bugs"
