Mabon is a modern Pagan festival marking the autumn equinox, when day and night are nearly equal. A celebration of harvest, gratitude and nature’s slow turn towards winter, its modern name was taken from Mabon ap Modron, a figure in medieval Welsh legend. #FolkloreSunday

Poem for Women Wednesday It All Comes Back To Me Now Dr. Maya C. Popa Theirs is a wisdom suspended in feeling: they are always at the beginning/about what love means in the making/Here I am, filled out by happiness I could not otherwise have earned. God forbid I hadn't taken every last wrong turn.
IT ALL COMES BACK TO ME NOW
Dusk, the mountains mauve,
and the samphire trembles between stones,
and the voices of long-dead singers croon through a hotel stereo.
Theirs is a wisdom suspended in feeling: they are always at the beginning
without a watch and no place to be.
To them I say, it's ok to be half right
about what love means in the making of a life. Not a trap, but a clearing.
Here I am, filled out by happiness I could not otherwise have earned.
God forbid I hadn't taken every last wrong turn.

BallyhalbertIntroduction to Poetry
After Billy Collins
I ask you to take my poem,
hold it like an opal to the bright eye of the sun, see the colours.
Or clasp it to your ear like a seashell.
I suggest you drop an adder into my poem, watch it slide around the curdle of words.
Or you could walk into the poem's dungeon, try to unpick the locks.
I want you to swim in the river of my poem, see if you can get to shore.
But all you want to do is place my poem in a birdcage, force it to sing its song.
You start by starving it
to find out what it really means.

Another delve into some of my older work. This one was a competition winner. The image that inspired it (an emperoro moth) was taken by me. #poetsofbluesky #poetsonbluesky #blueskypoets #poetrycommunity
Last Night I Became an Emperor Moth

I rode through the liquid night,
as a melon-slice moon crested a bank of cloud.
Part of the hush and curve of the universe;
Pleiades above me a diamond cluster ring.
Clothed in starlight, wings powdered,
furry belly glossy and plump.

Left the moor for a jaunt to the seaside,
over towns with flickering lights and strange smells.
Saw the sea corrugated by waves,
tang of salt quickening my senses.
Shimmied and played chase with the ladies,
rested with them on marram grass.

Birdsong ushered in the return of the sun;
drowsy, went home to sleep in the heather.
There to wait for my lover; my musk strong,
it will draw him from miles. He will come,
wings taut with blood. Antennae fresh as ferns.
Owl eyes pulsing with life like coals.
Photograph of an emperor moth.

An older poem of mine. The beach pottery mosaic is a piece of wall-art I made from pottery shards found on various Welsh beaches, while recovering from a spell of mental illness. This process felt as if I was putting my own broken pieces back together as well. From my first book 'Surfacing' (2018).
An image of a mosaic made from pieces of vintage beach pottery which I found on various Welsh beaches. It is a round shape and measures 25 inches across. It now hangs on my bathroom wall.
