Does anyone who works on CBS have some context on why Truman asked William Paley to chair a Material Commission in '53?

Media studies folks! Can anyone recommend a short, accessible-to-first-years reading that introduces the historical periods generally referred to as TV I, TV II, and TV III?

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes. Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

An informed electorate is a cornerstone of whatever comes next, something that can’t be attained without significant U.S. media reform, notes Victor Pickard, professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication. www.theverge.com/tech/656653/...
“For the long term we need something far more ambitious,” Pickard says. “For starters, we need to fund our public media in line with global norms and create structural alternatives — truly democratic and independent news outlets — to replace failing commercial models that are so easily captured and cowed by oligarchs.”

Excited to finally announce the release of my first ever book, and the first ever book from we here press. It is a pocket-size guide to my archival theories and experiences in the form of essays- some you may have heard in part as lectures, some which are unpublished until now. www.weherepress.org
Book cover. The top of the image is covered in overlapping black&white and sepia photographs of Black pas from the early to mid 20th century. Below that, against a seafoam green or robin's egg blue (depends on your view I suppose!), the book's title "The House Archives Built & Other Thoughts on Black Archival Possibilities" is printed in black. There is a small white rectangle inset that reads "Dorothy Berry"

4. More horror authors should read Kier la Janisse, Carol J. Clover, Susan Stryker, etc. Going past thinkpiece depth in your understanding of the genre really does wonders for your work.
