With general election ballots going out, here's a reminder that Eric Hafner is a spoiler candidate with a D beside his name and an orange jumpsuit on his back. He's in prison in New York for threatening to kill judges and other public servants. Whatever you do, do NOT rank that dude.

This is helpful! I can’t handle that Taylor‘s campaign message is punishing trans-kids. Nor that he squandered State resources on so many anti-Constitutional amicus briefs. About Bronson, I think of what Pat and Matt said on a recent podcast- he’s crazy but he’s at least crazy in an Alaskan way?

I’m wondering #AlaskaSky how you will rank the MAGA governor candidates? They are all objectively bad, but is one marginally better than the others? Help!

Ya. I’m pissed and feel like we are now way more at risk of having another MAGA governor. This is bs.

I love having so many candidates running. In the primary I can vote for candidates who reflect my values and priorities. For me that’s Meda Dewitt and David Leslie. I voted for Bill Hill since Schultz dropped out but prefer Schultz.

There are priorities, and then there are *PRIORITIES*. This current regime is actively destroying our own country AND much of the rest of the world. We need to fix that first. We can't do anything for anyone else if we are this broken.

Our state is one of just three challenging Section 504 and the right of disabled people to live in community. It is shameful and also inexplicable that Dunleavy and the AK Dept. of Law would argue that disabled Alaskans should not have these protections. More info: dredf.org/protect-504/
What’s Happening with Texas v. Kennedy (2026)? What About Other Attacks on Section 504 and Olmstead?
Three states, Alaska, Florida, and Texas, continue their challenge to Section 504 and the right of disabled people to live in the community. Four more states, Indiana, South Dakota, Kansas, and Missouri, have withdrawn from the case, demonstrating the power and perseverance of the disability community. Louisiana and Montana have not formally withdrawn but are no longer appearing on court filings. The case’s briefing schedule now runs through September 22, 2026.

Meanwhile, on June 18, the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel issued a memo stating that federal law, including Section 504 and Title II of the ADA, does not include an integration mandate. The memo does not change the law. Olmstead and the integration mandate remain in effect. Here is our statement on the memo.

Because the memo aligns the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services policy with the three remaining states in the case, the litigation may be paused again while the parties explore a potential settlement or rulemaking. DREDF and the disability community will remain actively engaged in any rulemaking process. Our Protect 504 page has more information.

Think of this definition alongside Division of Elections’ Dan J Sullivan shenanigans. Competitive authoritarianism is “a system in which parties compete in elections but incumbents routinely abuse their power to punish their critics and tilt the playing field against their opposition.” #AlaskaSky

It is for those who live in the slide zones. Those in the flood zone know when the glacier outburst flood will happen but not how high the waters will rise until the flood ebbs. I try to be realistic about this all, but it’s very easy for hypernormalization to set in with so many hazards.
