Anchorage police officers have shot two people in August, including one who was wounded and another who died. The shootings were the 6th and 7th police shootings in Anchorage so far in 2026.

In an interview today, Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case declined to say whether officer Kaden Pohl violated a new department policy that requires officers to be “stopped or close to it” before proceeding through a red light. The policy was enacted the day before the collision.

Republican Congressman Nick Begich finished in first place in Tuesday’s primary election, according to preliminary results. With about half of Alaska’s precincts reporting, Begich had about 48% of the vote.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of disposable wet wipes has increased across the country. But the wipes and the expense they cause – in Anchorage’s case, tens of thousands of dollars annually – are the subject of an effort nationwide to better address their impact on wastewater systems.

Anchorage police gave an update today on the June 16 shooting at a Walmart near Dimond. The man who was killed, Deandrea Robertson, 33, had an accomplice who was also concealing merchandise, police say. Three officers were hospitalized from the incident. alaskapublic.org/news/anchora...
