2016 Trump election cartoon by Paul Noth in the New Yorker of a clown at a lectern on a podium in the middle of a big crowd.
He looks really angry and he’s slamming his fist down saying, “Other countries are laughing at us.”

If someone threatens to withdraw investment because they are not getting their way, that does rather suggest that, until now, they have been getting their way.

Pete is lost in terms of modern war. I use the example of this outgunned Ukrainian army officer who successfully terrorized a Russian unit for weeks because she "did the math." At the time, someone commented, "yeah, in combat, 'I did the math' beats 'I can do 100 pushups' every time."
Ukrainian female soldier: Okay, I said the idea is this: There is enough time to empty one full can of 32 grenades and be gone by the time the return mortar fire reaches us. I did the math.

This is my objection to the Lib Dems and Greens who are at a local level incredibly NIMBY. They nationally then say we want new jobs, new homes, new renewable power just at a local level BANANA NIMBY. Build absolutely nothing absolutely nowhere near anyone.

I'm really saying the bookmakers think Labour will win. More people have bet on a Green win but ultimately it's whether Labour get their vote out and if they don't then can the Greens? Bookies thought Remain was nailed on so it's just their view, and all I would say is they can get it wrong

Political betting doesn't really mean anything unless you know how much has been better, and then for who. If most people have bet for Labour that effects the odds. Betting odds aren't a great indicator of the result of one by election.

Andrew Thatcher @andythatcher1.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Labour are odds on favourites on these odds so at 1/10 this means to get £1 back plus your bet you would have to bet £10. If the Greens at 7-1 won you would get £70 back plus your £10 stake
