Not been out with my camera in September, but here’s a Gannet against a #Northumberland coast sunrise taken with my phone. #BirdOfTheDay #BestOfTheMonth

No longer a Vestal Virgin! A surprising visitor at the porch light tonight #TeamMoth #Northumberland
A Vestal moth, an elongated creamy yellow moth with a diagonal red stripe on each wing. The wings are tented above the body as the moth rests on a white-painted porch-light support.

I think once black clad men are interfering with rescues at sea, we are past "legitimate concerns". Once they're attacking boats, and risking the lives of everyone on board, it's just thuggery. The Home Secretary's statement is on the side of criminals. There's no other way to read it.

A short thread on “legitimate concerns”. The phrase is used repeatedly by UK government ministers. The Home Secretary is at it again this week. But only ever - as far as I can tell - in one context: people’s response to the arrival of asylum seekers. Please read whole 🧵before responding - thanks

Very little of note in the UV trap last night here in South East #Northumberland but this Red-Green Carpet contrasted well with the wall and a Brown-spot Pinion posed well. #TeamMoth

First #BirdOfTheDay entry for a while, but today’s #ABCD theme is nice and broad! So here’s a posing Arctic Tern on the #FarneIslands a few years back.
An Arctic Tern, a pale grey and white seabird with black cap, red bill and short red legs. The tern is side on, perched on a lichen-and-guano covered dry stone wall, next to a patch of white-flowered bladder campion. The background is a soft focus dark blue sea under a pale blue sky
