Yeah, they chased my grandfather in Idaho for being Catholic.

Indeed! And the Cimrman Theater is celebrating its 60th anniversary this season.

Are we assuming that a nesselro sundae is related to Nesselrode pie? If so, I’ll have that , preceded by Chicken Eugene under glass.

Not widely sold in the Czech Republic, but who knows about 100 years ago? Heinz is the fancy brand nowadays.

So you were right on both counts. A very operatic plot, which probably accounts for its slow pace as a movie. But all the outdoor scenes in the snow were beautiful, and Gerda Lundequist was fantastic.

It's not 1536, but Anne Boleyn has taken over the news. Recently a team of computer scientists, electrical engineers and a historical novelist think they have discovered the “true face” of Anne (& her mother) by applying AI-based computational facial recognition to Holbein sketches. The catch? /1

Valletta alone is worth the trip. See the tombs of the Knights of Malta, then have a sandwich and a beer at the Gunpost. Feed the tomato from your sandwich to the little lizards.

Figures. Why wouldn't the Germans take the beer too? But eight degree beer isn't necessarily worse, just lighter. Glassworkers have traditionally drunk it for hydration, and a few breweries produce it in summer for the cyclist market.

You could still get Czech Budweiser, for only 2.5 times the price of a local brew. I wonder whether that changed with the German annexation the following year.

You would know if your device were listening to you 24/7 and transmitting everything you say to its manufacturer, because a brand new battery with full charge capacity would last for 20 minutes. The traffic would also be viewable on network sniffing: no one has ever detected it.

The examples he gives sound really interesting, but I think there's a place for the starter opera too. I was listening to orchestral reductions of the Ring way before I was ready for the whole thing.

I thought the Carstorf production was hostile to Wagner and that he was unethical for taking the job, but a few Germans have assured me that there were many subtle things that a non-German probably wouldn't get. I certainly didn't!

It's Bavaria (OK, Franconia), so you can get a beer and pretzel during intermission. The ceiling is high, but the floor is reasonably low.

The official word is sensible: "There are no regulations, but the festive character of the events determines the outfit of the guests. In addition, the weather also influences the evening wardrobe. It should be noted that the temperatures in the Festival Theater rise from the stalls to the gallery."

Bayreuth has the widest variety of attire of any theater I've attended. Lots of tuxes and gowns, plus kimonos, Tracht, traditional African costume, and plenty of ordinary suits and dresses. Always a couple of crumpled polos as well.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Some thoughts on the CR/minibus. 1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins. Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.
