Hurrah ! Finally, my first Waxcaps of the season. All Persistent Waxcap (Hygrocybe acutoconica) I think, despite the colour variation. Found on a patch of post-industrial ‘waste’ ground in South Wales. #fungi #waxcap

Feather Stalkball, Onygena corvina. A friend found these growing on the remains of a dead Buzzard near Norwich and brought them along to Sunday's Norfolk Fungus Study Group foray for everyone to see. The fungus secretes enzymes to help it digest keratin from feathers. #Fungi #FungiFriends

Fungi meeting today in Northaw Great Wood, Herts. Very very dry but we managed a few. Yesterday was #fungusday so pics of a few. Names in Alt. #fungi. Herts seems to have lacked much rain so far, things might improve if some decent rain comes before the end of the season.

#MushroomMonday A cluster of tiny Common Bird's Nest Fungi (Crucibulum laeve) found in Greater Manchester whilst out with NW Fungus Group. Each nest contains 10-15 tiny "eggs" which are the spores packages and are released by splashes of heavy rain.

Found a few of these in a Midlothian field exclusively used for grazing sheep. It is rich in a variety of fungi. I think they are Mosaic Puffballs (Lycoperdon utriforme). Tethered to the ground by root-like stringy rhizomorphs. #Fungi #Mushrooms #Nature #Photography #Nikon #Scotland

After saying I’d do it for years, I finally set up an online shop 🦑 Alongside my work as a biologist, I make lino cut art prints (often nature- inspired) that I have sold at art markets. I make some jewellery too… Check it out! www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Magp...

Date Waxcap (Hygrocybe spadicea) Having an incredible bumper year in Britain following the hot dry summer and seemingly the same in Ireland. A pleasure to see 100's of fruit bodies this morning at what is now the 4th known Irish site (the 3rd also found this year).

#ukfungusday and nice to finally have Waxcaps up and about. Surveys this week still have a feeling of early September in terms of who's fruiting. The hot dry summer really seems to have pushed the season back. Fibrous Waxcap (Hygrocybe intermedia)
