We’ve just been to see the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition at the British Museum. It’s quite incredible how well it’s been preserved! For anyone visiting, I would caution against making any dinner reservations too soon afterwards – it took us over two hours to get through after entry.

Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

We report: there are flocks of birds in the sky at nightfall again. The days are still warm, but they are getting short, enough that we have to look out for the height of the sun in the late afternoons. Our export reminds us that the autumn equinox is in a few days.
Digital painting of a twilight sky, a gradient of blue to pastel yellow; there are long clouds spread out across the sky, with traces of pink still lingering there. There is a half moon glowing behind the clouds, and a flock of birds in the distance.

A short thread on “legitimate concerns”. The phrase is used repeatedly by UK government ministers. The Home Secretary is at it again this week. But only ever - as far as I can tell - in one context: people’s response to the arrival of asylum seekers. Please read whole 🧵before responding - thanks

A rather flimsy bivouac made of fallen logs and branches in an open area of woodland. It was taken in the Wandlebury Country Park in Cambridgeshire, UK. If you wove some leaves into it, it would actually be a pretty decent shelter – at least until a gentle breeze brought it down on your head…

Post a picture that should be an album cover.
A photo of train tracks, taken in the late evening a little after sunset. The sky is a greyish blue, fading down to yellow as it nears the horizon. Ragged strips of cloud lie across the sky, and the setting sun is reflecting deep red against the underside of the most distant clouds. The foreground is entirely silhouetted against the sky, formed by thick hedges and low trees either side of the tracks. The rails themselves are bright, white lines against the black, as they reflect the sky, heading in a straight line into the distance.

Whatever else you might think about Binface’s campaign in Clacton, he’s using his platform to genuinely sell the positives of the place, as opposed to Farage who’s relentlessly negative. Some of these international commenters are now aware of Clacton as a place to visit. youtu.be/9lRA0r2G4BI?...

Odd This Day @oddthisday.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
It’s the 88th anniversary today of this immensely enjoyable headline 🧵
12 boys rout fascists
Twelve boys, some of them less than 10 years old, went to Weymouth beach and barracked Mr Robert Saunders, a Fascist speaker.
He ignored them, so they went away and returned with toffee tins half filled with stones.
Using the tins as rattles, they made so much noise that Mr Arthur England, a 63-year-old Weymouth magistrate and superintendent of the beach, approached to stop them.
A crowd of holiday-makers, sympathising with the children, booed Mr England and a sock filled with sand caught him behind the ear.
In the sand battle that followed, the Fascists were pelted off the beach.
About 5,000 people followed them to their car, overturned the trailer attached it, and filled the loud speaker equipment with sand.

I’m always surprised how reflective railway tracks become, leading to cool illusion of lines of liquid fire leading into the distance at sunset.
A picture of straight railway tracks going into the distance between two hedges, silhouetted against a sunset of peach-lined grey clouds in a light blue sky. The tracks are reflecting the sky, forming two bright lines leading into the distance against the nearly black foreground.

t took me a while to realise what the man sitting next to me on the train was doing. He was flicking through pictures of a little girl on his phone; zooming in on some, cropping the images. Hardly unusual, of course, except that on closer inspection the pictures were very clearly of the toddler sitting opposite us, playing with her parents. On a crowded train of people mostly staring obliviously at our own phones, a stranger had been covertly photographing that little girl over and over again. And if it hadn’t been for that very visible phone screen giving him away, he wouldn’t have been caught.
