He had perfect pitch, could hear anything once and be able to play it flawlessly (and then turn it into jazz). Truly the best piano player I've ever heard, and I'm sorry that I didn't ask for more wild stories from when he used to play piano at mob-owned restaurants in New York in the 70s and 80s
