Maybe McTighe could manage "consistently entertaining and then a David Whittaker type gives me an enemy of the world to throw me a bone", but that "safe pair of hands" model hasn't been pulled off by 21st century Doctor Who yet, imo

I'd need to trust the era could achieve a baseline competence, imo - the Chibnall era had it's fair share of good guest writers, but never pulled off the base level of consistency that, say, peak BUS Troughton or the Pertwee era managed.

I understand why there’s lots of nostalgia for everything in the past, but when I see stuff like this I just want there to be some reckoning with the fact that pewdiepie, an undeniably very shrill and annoying online presence, was the most popular YouTuber for so long lol

I do think Doctor Who could probably find a way to do lower budget stories so it has a more sustainable production model, but I also think there's a point at which it's worth considering the possibility the experienced professionals who worked on the last two seasons probably tried to make that/

I think fandom would do well to remember the production team that made the Gatwa era also made Doctor Who between 2005-2008, aka the only period of modern Doctor Who to successfully make more than two seasons in a row of more than 10 episodes

The image is of a four panel comic.
Panel one shows an eldritch god, a skeletal possum like creature with large antlers, saying "I AM AS OLD AS THE FOREST ITSELF".
Panel two shows a stick figure saying, "But you must have been a baby at some point?"
Panel three shows the eldritch god saying "Well. Yes."
Panel four shows a tiny eldritch baby sitting on a rock, his antlers just little twigs.

Remembered the time I looked up "Poets" on YouGov to discover what poets are into. According to YouGov, fans of Poetry:
Text:
Work in Architecture and Interior Design
They like Writing, reading Non-Fiction and Sleeping
They eat Stuffed Aubergines and drive Toyotas
They drive Toyotas to the Co-op
Because they like shopping at the Co-op most of all the shops
While driving Toyotas to the Co-op they like listening to Susan Boyle,
Sandy Denny
Or Pentangle.
That is what they like.

Sports wise, fans of poetry enjoy Mixed Martial Arts.
They enjoy Road Cycling.
They enjoy Athletics - 200 metres.

They bank at Nationwide, according to YouGov.
They read New Scientist, according to YouGov.
Text:
What films do they watch?
Well I’m glad
You asked.

They watch The Man Who Fell to Earth.
They watch The Man Who Knew Infinity.
They watch Blue is the Warmest Colour.

People who like poetry are young, female and politically left leaning.

Their third favourite celebrity is Richard Beckinsale.

Richard Beckinsale was an English actor
Who died in 1979, famous for roles in the sitcoms Rising Damp and Porridge.

Poetry fans prefer Blackadder to these shows though.
Blackadder and The World at War.

They wear Crocs, these fans of poetry,
And they have many traits. They are Arrogant
And Neurotic and Self Absorbed; Opinionated,
Needy, Unemotional, Cold and
Unambitious

But they are also Well Educated.

yeah, even once you narrow it down to the post-WW2 PMs before Theresa May, only 7/12 last more than 5 years (Atlee, MacMillan, Wilson, Thatcher, Major, Blair, Cameron). Having three in a row last somewhat long-term (Thatcher, Major, Blair) really skews the perspective on it too, imo

As a fellow England fan, I think it's just social conditioning from being into sports when you're young. I moved to Wales as an adult, and will soon have spent more time here than I did in England, and I still know I'm going to support England in sports for the rest of my life. I can't be helped.

Two panel comic. Panel 1: there’s a rap battle going on, with a small crowd of onlookers enjoying the show. The guy on the microphone raps, “this fool brought an ancient staff. You got no swag; it makes me laugh!” Panel 2: the rapper holding the other microphone is an evil sorcerer with sunken eyes and a long purple robe. In his other hand, he grasps an ancient magic staff, which instantly shoots a bolt of powerful energy at the first rapper, reducing him to ash. The crowd of people watching the battle react excitedly, in awe of the evil sorcerer’s skills.

This is fair too. Certainly if people's issue with Katara/ Aang is that she doesn't show many signs of romantic feelings for him, it's strange to then ship her with Zuko, who she doesn't show any signs of romantic feelings for

Andrew Phillip @andrewphillip.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
Bringing this back to the remake, given how little time they spent on most of the ships in the original show with more screen time, I can't see the remake doing any of the relationships more satisfyingly
010
Andrew Phillip @andrewphillip.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
I get why people buy Aang and Katara less (I think they're cute), but the show does the work of establishing Aang likes Katara and (to a much lesser degree, which is a large part of why people bounce off it) that Katara comes to see him the same way
210
Andrew Phillip @andrewphillip.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
It completely makes sense that Katara considering using her magic water to heal Zuko's scar and Zuko redirecting lightning to save her is the source of a million fanfics, but that doesn't really count as the narrative actually setting up those characters getting together, imo

Andrew Phillip @andrewphillip.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
Bringing this back to Zutara, it's a prime example of the Avatar "I can see why people ship this, but it's not really being justifiably set up as a romantic relationship at any point in the show"

I'm of the opinion that Avatar has a lot of ship pairings, whether canon or not, are quite cute and have a nice inter-character dynamic, but also hardly any of them are particularly developed or set up - korrasami is one of the few that actually puts the work into showing how their relationship/

Three panel comic of an homage to the first Garfield strip, but Jon is a monk and Garfield is a medieval rendering of a cat. In the first panel, Jon says, “HWÆT, LAM JON ARBUCKLE. I AM A MONK, AND THIS MY CATTE, GARFFELD.” In the second panel, Garffeld is thinking, “ HWÆT, I AM GARFFELD. I AM A CATTE, AND THIS IS MY MONK, JON.” In the last panel, Jon says, “OUR ONLY THOUGHT IS TO GLORIFY GOD.” Garffeld thinks, “FEDE ME.”

Three panel comic. Panel 1: two people are laying romantically in the grass on a clear day. The girl asks the guy, “where does the wind come from?” Panel 2: the guy calmly replies, “pressure changes?” The girl says, “ahh…” Panel 3: Professor Propeller, a small, rotund mustached man in a skin tight suit covered in rotating fans blowing air around, peeks out from behind a tree. Davies' second crack at Doctor Who was not wholly successful to say the least, but he managed to get it live a few more years after it would have otherwise ended up here in 2022, and we got a fair few great episodes along the way. Not good enough to have me mourning, but grateful it happened.
