Is the royal 'we' another example, or is this a different phenomenon?

He keeps doing it. Every time somebody gets beheaded in this text, the word "head" is replaced with a little hand-drawn emoticon. And considering how many people get beheaded in this story, that's a lot of lil face drawings.
A manuscript in which two instances of the word "head" have been replaced by small faces

Awesome. Speaking of which, do you have plans to publish "The Fallen Master" beyond the limited edition of "The Tainted Cup"?

The Knight's Tour is the route a chess knight would have to take to visit each square of the board exactly once. A knight moves 2 squares on 1 axis & 1 in the other. It has inspired experimental literary forms, like Sanskrit poems that can be read left to right or by jumping syllables like a knight.

I have a very naive question: how do you identify the films to watch? I imagine there may be indie films with limited release not listed in, say, IMDB.

There was a series of papers on sphere-like manifolds, which at the end turned out to just be spheres. I suspect the legend came from this.

I find it wrong to call a question of that kind a conjecture, but I've found many mathematicians are less picky about such terminology.

Did people actually believe it? My understanding of the situation was that this was a natural question annoyingly resisting attack, and asking it in the form of a conjecture was a good way to stimulate work on it, particularly if one conjectures the 'interesting' option.

The sets in their construction are of very low Borel complexity, but I don't recall whether any were actually closed. At the cost of increasing by one the number of needed sets you can always have one of them be a Cantor-like perfect set.

Sorry, I don't understand what your notation means. It seems to describe an a equal to its omega^omega-th power. Or an a which is an omega^omega power. Don't see epsilon_0 there in any case.

In the theory of determinacy, similarly, we only have a limited amount of choice, so rather than discussing arbitrary sets of reals, one tends to concentrate on the infinity-Borel ones (those that have a 'generalized' code).

Andrés E. Caicedo @andrescaicedo01.bsky.social · 01/06/2026
Yes, without any choice, the right notion is the codable version. This also allows us to develop Lebesgue measure ina reasonable way (i.e., without every set being null, for instance). The reference I've seen on this is Vol. 5 of Fremlin's treatise on measure theory.

You cannot! It is consistent with ZF that the set of reals (and therefore any of its subsets) is a countable union of countable sets (and therefore Borel).

Hot off the presses! Some people think I'm a stereotype of a nerd 🤓, but isn't that kind of a cliché? Let's talk about how "stereotype" & "cliché" were invented by the printing press. Movable type depended on typesetters putting little letter blocks (a 'sort' or 'type') in 'forms'.
A form, a bracketed rectangle with movable type carefully laid out in rows of varying sizes.
