Managed to get to see the AIDS quilt today, just before it leaves the Tramway, and it's so moving, particularly watching young people born well after the crisis interacting with it respectfully. There's so much love in the quilt. Things that make you smile like fave song lyrics, teddies, sparkles.

This is SO spot on. With Josh looking completely terrified and Rebecca dancing around him obliviously grinning. (That was such a great show)

With the cancellation of both Ride Or Die and Ponies, it seems that the streamers just don't like shows where two women pals get up to hijinks, which is sad as it's pretty much my favourite genre these days.

"What is time? ... It really is meaningless, isn’t it, 60 years, in terms of what time is? On the other hand, Dolly Parton just died. It brings up the whole concept of the passage of time and what that means.” This quote sums up everything I love about the insane personality that is William Shatner.

I begged Woman’s Hour to cover Gamergate in 2014, when it was the NYT front page & UK women in games were living in terror. Gamergate became the model for MAGA. They said they didn’t think it was an important story. That week they covered women mountaineers of the 19th C & new ways with aubergine

Just saw Facebook antivaxxers speculating that 80-year-old Dolly Parton’s death was hastened by the COVID vaccine she helped fund the development of and received—half a decade ago—and am thinking about how the past decade spent catering to these people has been nothing but a waste of time.

It's funny how two female producers best known for other things were partly responsible for two of the most influential (and my favourite) TV shows ever - Dolly with Buffy, and Lucille Ball with Star Trek. Wonder if there are any more good examples?

Around 20 years ago my pal and I went to Nashville and were DESPERATE to visit Dollywood at Pigeon Forge. But (then anyway) it was literally impossible to get there without hiring a car. Concept of being non-drivers was so foreign to everyone involved. Couldn't afford chauffeur, sadly never made it.

Oh, Dolly. What a great songwriter, singer and all round good egg. When I was going in for a caesarean birth they had the radio on and I would have been annoyed but it was playing JOLENE and so instead I was very happy. And I got to see her play live twice, so I feel very privileged.

Icelandic teenagers tossing baby puffins off a cliff.
5 teenagers on a cliff in Vestmannaeyjar. Three are holding baby puffins, about to throw them off the cliff. One teen records with a smartphone while the fifth watches from behind.

The baby puffins are found in town, confused by the lights. They're caught, weighed, boxed up, and tossed off the cliffs to fledge.

It’s the 88th anniversary today of this immensely enjoyable headline 🧵
12 boys rout fascists
Twelve boys, some of them less than 10 years old, went to Weymouth beach and barracked Mr Robert Saunders, a Fascist speaker.
He ignored them, so they went away and returned with toffee tins half filled with stones.
Using the tins as rattles, they made so much noise that Mr Arthur England, a 63-year-old Weymouth magistrate and superintendent of the beach, approached to stop them.
A crowd of holiday-makers, sympathising with the children, booed Mr England and a sock filled with sand caught him behind the ear.
In the sand battle that followed, the Fascists were pelted off the beach.
About 5,000 people followed them to their car, overturned the trailer attached it, and filled the loud speaker equipment with sand.

There is a flat opposite me where a band regularly (like, 2-3 x week) hold long amplified rehearsals and it is driving me nuts (they are also very bad). When I ask, they do turn music down slightly, but next time it's the same loud level.
