If we actually want to appreciate moms, we should be providing free childcare, healthcare, and guaranteed income for stay-at-home parents to put more money in families’ pockets and ensure no SAHP is reliant on a partner for their economic security. Idk I think that’s better than 15% off a vacuum.

I have carefully tracked my cycle for decades and have taught many others to do the same: The experiences of the ovulatory cycle aren't even consistent within the same person, let alone across people. We contain multitudes, but the obsession with ovulation and hormones is mostly harmful grifting.

New from me: Obsession with ovulation and women's hormones is spreading throughout tech, social media, and the government. Using words like "luteal" may sound scientific and even feminist, but romanticizing women's hormones has dire social consequences. www.theatlantic.com/health/2026/...

I wrote about the Trump administration’s false claims about Tylenol, and the moral—not scientific—burdens they place on pregnant women’s bodies. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Pregnant women do not lack for judgmental, frightening and dubiously factual instructions about their health. Everywhere, they are told that they risk the health of their fetus by partaking in a series of banal everyday activities – be it jogging or having coffee or eating a certain cheese – that they are told will lead, by obscure mechanisms that are never quite explained, to impossible and devastating health outcomes for their children-to-be. The admonishments are multiple and often contradictory, but they all tend to agree on one thing: that it is always good for women to deprive themselves of joy and relief – and to suffer more – for the sake of their fetuses.

In the newsletter, I incl. a quote from @andreabeckerphd.bsky.social in a recent interview w/ @thenation.com, saying "we no longer have formal eugenics boards, but we see trickles of this #eugenics logic continuing in #healthcare...the #carceral system...[& the] growing pro-natalist movement" (24/?)
"We no longer have formal eugenics boards, but we see trickles of this eugenics logic continuing in healthcare and in the carceral system. It’s eugenics logic at play when migrant women in detention centers aren’t seen as worthy of reproduction, and so forced hysterectomies were deemed acceptable. And then, when we see this growing pro-natalist movement, this growing movement among highly educated white billionaires to increase the birth rates of other white billionaires—abortion bans are fueled by eugenics—we’re continuing to see this desire to repopulate the earth with the “right” kinds of people and to reduce the birth rates of other types of people."
