I would be very interested in an empirical test of the infinite cats theorem. That is, testing if an infinite number of cats hitting keys on typewriters would eventually write whatever counts as a 'top-journal' publication. Anyone else interested?

Check your RStudio settings and ensure that you are NOT restoring data at startup and that you are NOT saving the workspace on exit. Read & write operations should be explicit user actions and done through code.

Save the data + code that generated the output, rather than only the output. Make deliberate choices of which (if any) intermediate outputs to save. There's no universally applicable rule, you need to make that choice.

Avoid doing things by hand or through point and click. "I'm only doing this once..." No, you're not! And even so, precise documentation of manual work is harder than it sounds. Use code!

For the love of science, please don't use LLMs to generate text or references that go in any type of research output! Let alone in papers, theses, assignments. Especially if there's a chance I will read that output. I seem to have a thing for spotting fabricated references. A blessing or a curse? 😟

Interesting and detailed analysis. I read the original paper and I don't understand how Fig.2 numbers were produced. Earnings = 0.1$ Errors - 1$ * Delays. The numbers don't add up. One needs to use Earnings = 0.1$ Errors - 1$ * Delays + 10$, but the paper doesn't mention the extra 10$.

Yep. I have seen this happen also for R. You ask questions, you get answers. But that doesn't mean the output you see is what you need or that you're able to identify parameters of interest with the data you have.

Recent case, re-run of the authors' code failed on a first-stage regression, blocked code from completing. Hard to initially diagnose, because "qui do regression_55.do" shows no output... 🤦Back and forth with authors, they provide evidence that it works on their system. We send MWE to Stata support👇
