I've been severely lacking in my #arachtober duties, so I thought I'd finish what I left halfway last year - an A to Z of arachnid genera. @arachtober.bsky.social A for the inimitable Argyroneta (Argyronetidae), the only spider known to live an entirely aquatic lifestyle.

Is this paleoart accurate ?
The pose was inspired by the fossil itself, I’m not that much at ease when drawing pedipalpids so I played it safe.

The first pair of legs isn’t preserved, so these ones are based on current mastigoproctines’ proportions.

The pedipalps’ spines follow what’s been observed on the holotype.

Missing details (like the eyes) are reconstructed based on other mastigoproctines.REFERENCES

Amypteride🏳️‍⚧️🔻🕷🦂 @amypteride.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
But, before starting, there's something I'd like to say on the Crato Formation's fossils for #Fossilfriday. #Cheliceratime 2/4
Today's species comes from the Crato Formation, a Brazilian geological formation from which incredible fossils have historically been stoled from Brazilian people by European countries & plunderers. There are many other similar situations like this across the world, paleontology's history is plagued by colonialism & neo-colonialism, but the Crato Formation is one of the more accessible and documented cases to talk about right now.

Crato’s fossils are often seized by customs, and several specimens have been at the center of juridic fights with European museums refusing to give fossils back to local communities & scientists, infantilising them and going against basic human dignity and respect for heritage. Paleontologists have a role to play in all of this, and more & more people act to ensure locals have a central part in all of this.

Mark my freaking word:
FOSSILS & COOL ROCKS WILL NEVER BE WORTH MORE THAN RESPECTING OTHERS.

Science helps us to understand the world, and to do so we always make choices on what we talk about or what we decide to test. Choices affecting others, choices showing how we view human interactions. Political choices. Science has always been political, and it's up to all of us to make it better and not continue to fund human suffering.

And I frankly don't give a sh*t if you disagree. Human lives, basic rights & dignity aren't up to debate. And I'll include something like that in future posts each time it's needed.

This vinegarroon is one of the few named species of this order from the entire Mesozoic era. It already looks quite modern in every details, and shares a lot of features with the current vinegarrons living in the Americas.

Size : 12-ish cm of body length
Time period : Early Cretaceous
Paleoart speculativometer : Few missing details

The animal drawn is a vinegaroon, an arachnid looking a bit like a scorpion with long thin first legs used as antennae

if you won’t listen to me, maybe you’ll listen to @lillywachowski.bsky.social because if you actually care about trans people you gotta drop Harry Potter
There is a big "Harry Potter" series coming out on HBO soon and there are many people opposed to it because of J.K.
Rowling's transphobia.
She is funding trans genocide. J.K. Rowling funds trans genocide, full stop. So, if you support "Harry Potter," you're supporting trans genocide. The money that goes into you enjoying these products, a portion of that money goes to J.K. Rowling and that money goes into her funding anti-trans legislation all over the world. In the same way that if you are against Elon Musk, you boycott or don't buy Tesla; and if you're against global warming/climate change, you try not to buy as much gas, you try to mitigate your use of these products. It's simple math. So, your enjoyment of these shows, and continued support of these shows, is supporting my eradication.

Is this drawing accurate ?
The minute details of D. canis couldn’t be figured so it kinda looks more like a random follicle mite, but I tried to keep the D. canis profile as much as possible.

Tbh I chose this view mainly to not draw in detail the legs ^^’

I chose to not make it transparent for the simplicity of the drawing, but living specimens can be transparent with bits of food passing inside them.REFERENCES

Just like humans have their own follicle mites, this species completes its entire lifecycle thanks to dogs’ skin. On a dog with a weaken immune system, this mite can cause demodicosis.

Size: roughly 200µm of body length
Time period: Holocene (present day)
Conservation status: Least concern/Near threatened

This famous arthropod was one of the biggest eurypterids during the Ordovician period, and its genus was first identified as a graptolite. It’s well-known for the long spines on its second pair of legs and for the semi-lunar shape of its telson.

Size : a bit more than 50cm of body length
Time period : Late Ordovician
Paleoart speculativometer : Almost a carbon copy

And to end today's topic, the usual drawing auto-feedback and (a lot of) refs! Thank you for reading & I’ll see you on the next #Cheliceratime! 4/4
And to end this post, some of you may have already known this eurypterid before, and I clearly wouldn’t be surprised. Megalograptus is one of the most featured eurypterids in pop culture, as it’s been for example on of the basis of the Ark’s eurypterid, or been the first eurypterid showed in a BBC documentary from the 2000s golden age of BBC’s paleo-documentaries. Its singular look isn’t for nothing in its popularity too, as it’s one of the few eurypterids to have a morphology easily identifiable from the eurypterid’s ground body plan and deviating clearly from a scorpion-like look unlike the way more popular pterygotids. Is this paleoart accurate ?
Apart from some tiny perspective glitches, I think that’s one of the best eurypterids I’ve ever drawn.

I had to redo the entire drawing because I missed the work on the species coloration, so apart from the orangy pattern (‘cause I wanted to give it more depth while still staying within the lines), the coloration is now supposed to match what’s supposed to have been the animal real colors.

A lot of drawings show this animal with folded second pair of legs, so I opened them a bit to give more dynamic to the animal.REFERENCES

And now that the morphological side is done, there's also some things to be said about its classification and paleoecology! #Cheliceratime 3/4

What time is it? It’s #Cheliceratime ! Today's entry is one of the most famous eurypterid, Megalograptus ohioensis! All the basic infos are here but if you want to learn more, there’s more in the thread below!⬇️🧵 #arthropod #ordovician #paleoart #eurypterid #sciart #bugsky 1/4

The animal drawn looks a bit like a scorpion but without pincers, with instead large spiny arms

Merci 💚

I feel like one of the most radical, best and most rebelliously good things you can do right now in the informational online space is just....give people credit, love, support and shoutouts. Even if they just inspired you or prodded a thought you built on, name them and thank them loudly.
