Aussie living in southern Japan. I review audio gear and teach Japanese kids how to beat me up in Aikido. Old school enough that emoji are still weird to me.

It's funny looking back at a device that has only a very tiny screen versus the size of the device.

Sony Walkman, how dare you not last 3 decades! Thankfully there’s always some weirdly-named Chinese company on Amazon that sells the part you’re looking for to fix stuff.

I watch this at least once a year. It’s one of those movies where every scene has something brilliant in it.

Murderous bears have saved us from the seemingly endless anti-foreigner sentiment. Japanese culture is more afraid of death.

Reminds me of when I lived in Tokyo. I always caught trains. Didn’t realise how huge greater Tokyo is until someone offered to drive me somewhere and it took hours. Even with 110 km/h train services it takes a couple of hours to transverse.

One of the beautiful things about social media is that sometimes when you scream into the void, after a pause, a voice or two may answer back “fuck, me too” and you feel a little less alone in the world

So some obscure Chinese company decided to make a Bluetooth DAC/headphone/IEM amp with old, tiny Nixie tubes. They bought all the remaining stock they could find and this was the result. youtu.be/K6z0-b2Hk-Y

You need to use a brand with thin tubes though. We’re currently using one with thick, recycled tubes and it’s much harder.

I vinyl wrapped my Mac Studio^W^WPerforma 40000.
A photo of a Mac Studio with 5K Studio display, and an Apple Extended Keyboard II. The Studio Display and MacStudio are wrapped in a flat vinyl colour matched to the slightly yellowed platinum grey-beige of the Extended Keyboard. A 1970s style supergraphic runs across the top of the keyboard and the front of the Mac Studio, in a rainbow of red, yellow, avocado teal and navy blue. The black edge of the Studio Display is also wrapped in the same beige, with a tiny little rainbow apple logo at the bottom.

I suspect people with a lack of self-awareness, as well as self-discipline, dominate social media. People who have intelligent discussions, and hesitate to really think about what is being said before they reply, get drowned out by those who are more impulsive and want to dominate.

As a non-American, it’s painfully ironic to see people on the “right” rant about the “elites” secretly plotting to whatever, then have a man with the name of a kind of scent come out and blatantly do the very things they claim, but in the name of their politics.

Is there a way I can switch AI off on absolutely everything? Browsers, phones, whatever, all of it. It's hard enough to get to the truth with most powerful humans constantly spinning shit, I don't also need robots collating all the nonsense and making up their own variety on top. It's just garbage.

The H5N1 subtype has been around since 1996, occasionally jumping to mammals, including humans. As with other strains, there is a risk of a pandemic outbreak, but that is uncertain. What is certain is that if that happens, some do not want you to protect yourselves: the McCullough Foundation. 1/10
X post reads: "The bird flu vaccine she wants approved for humans is called AUDENZ, made by CSL Seqirus. Humans injected with the AUDENZ died at a rate of 1 in 200 (0.5%) compared to 0.1% in the placebo group, in one of the clinical trials (Study 3). This deadly injection must NOT be authorized for human use. https://x.com/TheChiefNerd/s/TheChiefNerd/status/1873411875389444518"

Sensoji today, through the lens of a blackened and hollowed out gingko. I never noticed the tree before, as it is off to the side in a smoking area, but now I’ll never see these grounds the same again, because once you see one fire-damaged tree at Sensoji, you see them all. And they are EVERYWHERE.
View directly through the Sensoji Daichu, the left side of its hollow center is visibly blackened. Through the oval in the tree we see part of the pagoda half-covered by another yellow gingko tree. To the left of that is part of the temple gate. Both buildings are red. Sky is light blue. Don’t go to Sensoji though, until something is done about the weak yen. I was only passing through because it is my neighborhood. Don’t go. Trust me.

If you're going to post screenshots from Twitter it should exclusively be stuff like this instead of stuff that makes people mad
A tweet from James RPG, @ZaaackKoootzer with an avatar of what looks like a bird wearing an elaborate crown. The text of the post reads: prestige this. streaming that. tv still hasn't topped data's first appearance after having sex for the first time. The post includes an image of Worf in a red uniform at the helm with Picard behind him in his traditional Captain's uniform. Behind them in the door of the turbo lift is Data, leaning against the doorframe with such an incredible amount of swagger and rizz that if the device you are using was capable of such feats as transmitting his charisma through the screen, that it may impregnate you, regardless of whether you have the equipment for that

I think the violence will only stop if the Arabs who want to destroy Israel change their minds. That’ll never happen. What is more, I doubt anyone would agree on the location of Palestine. The rest doesn’t need to be said.
000
Amos @amos.io · 20/11/2024
Won’t stop anything. The aim of Hamas, Iran, and other Arabs is to destroy Israel, and they want Israel to kill Palestinians, so other countries turn against them. Why aren’t Arab countries taking in refugees from Gaza? Why did Oman just kick out Hamas? Why do people not research?

I’m in a clinic and all the chairs are rock, hard, and I’m the youngest patient here. During treatment for sciatica, I had to ask for a cushion to sit on.

Given the considerable percentage of Japanese that are elderly, you’d think that chairs in Japan, especially in medical clinics, would be comfortable.

It's the way it works in either side of politics: Take one serious, or arguably serious issue and blow it up to distract from criticism of other things you want swept under the carpet. But, if it HAS become a serious concern amongst people, dismissing it as nonsensical will not solve things.
