Autumn Equinox 2026 – Hospitality is a Verb
Autumn Equinox is the harvest festival of fruit and nuts, when people make wine and cider, gather elderberries and rosehips for vitamin-C rich preserves, feed bushel-baskets of acorns to their pigs, and hunt for Hen of the Woods, Honey Mushrooms, Giant Puffballs, Lion’s Mane, and the last of the King Boletes. In Ontario, where our growing season is short and so harvests overlap with each other heavily, we’ve been bringing in apricots, cherries, berries, and even apples for a couple of months – and pears and apples will continue to ripen through the end of October – while the last of the cereals were harvested barely a week ago.
