I was speaking earlier and told the story of my grandfather who was in a boarding school. One of the parts of the story I always remember is how they forced him to eat steak despite having never had it (he ate venison and mutton at home). He would throw it up & they would keep forcing him to eat it.

People still haven't grasped quite how horribly Native children were tortured at these "schools". We are expected to act as if this intergenerational trauma doesn't still affect us. Yeah, do not use AI detectors. This is kinda why I don't do any call outs or name and shame, there are far, far too many false accusations of AI use happening, and while I'll decline game when the artstyle doesn't pass my sniff test, the possibility for harm if I did put someone on blast is real.

The standard narrative goes that LUDDITES were foolish lunatics who, in fear of technology, decided progress was bad, and started hitting it with sticks. (But the truth is entire ways of life were being destroyed.)

Previously, skilled craftsmen were respected for the time and effort it took to do their work. The entire family usit would form a cottage industry - creating something valuable, and command a decent living. But when a machine can work 10 times faster its owner can charge less for the prodcts- craftsmen couldn't compete and were left out of work almost overnight.

And as factories became a fixture of the british landscape, these now unemployed labourers often ended up working the factories that had just destroyed their way of life. Britain was the most prosperous nation in history, factory owners became extremely wealthy and influential. But the people doing the actual work saw almost none of it.

Another giant of comics has left us. From 1965 to 1990, Oliphant was THE dominant political cartoonist in the US (even though he was an Aussie). A generational talent. A complicated guy. Often problematic, often brilliant, always scathing and funny.
