It's been so hot for so long that it was hard to get into the Halloween spirit and convince myself to decorate, but I resolved to do it today. The break in the worst of the heat, which allows me to walk after dark and read outside in the morning, helped too. Halloween is here now.

One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

I edit on the macro and micro level. I enjoy it. Most of the rewrite was functionally transcription from a sub-ready manuscript, so there probably won't be a lot of edits there. I don't think it'll take as long as usual.

Post-workout, my brain was still spinning, so I finished WE FOLLOW YOU IN THE DARK. Final word count was 72,729, which is about 18K more than the original version. Edits will likely bring it down to about 65K. I need a short break before taking that on.
