It's a tough one. I deleted my twitter account not long after Musk took over, and FB went ages ago. This channel - I like it but I have to make time to use it which feels a bit counterintuitive. But when I do step back in, it's a nice set of people in my feed. So I'm hoping you stay...?

"Nobody's talking to engineers anymore. They're asking agents for problems, and it just keeps the conversation very isolated." Never mind all the talk about saving x number of hours a week in productivity - and I hate to be *that* person - but decent leaders have got to look at the pain points.

Wrangled my way through the DX Q2 report and can't help but feel for the people in the statistics. New engineers get productive faster, but there's still a lot of friction that is taking a toll on people, including context switching, isolation from colleagues, larger changes to review.

Yesterday, UiPath has announced that it's opening up its orchestration layer to any coding agent. @alyx.diginomica.com talks us through what this could mean, why Claude Code and Codex go first, and why the real argument is about which layer of the stack is actually worth owning: bit.ly/4uOaioR

Such a strong opening keynote and some excellent sessions today. Plus great opportunities to hang out and network with attendees and find out what's resonating most with them. @linuxfoundation.org. In my data and observability happy place.

most insane payment structure i've ever seen. the app is mean to you unless you pay them.

screenshot of pricing page saying "free forever, pay to control the platypus"

free: billie roasts at normal intensity, you cannot fire the platypus
4.99/mo : shut him up - disables roasts entirely

I just think that if sharrows are gonna look like that, they should give you a speed boost when you ride your bike over them.

A sharrow—a pictogram of a bicycle with two chevrons over it painted on a road.

An assortment of boost pads in racing games, which all have a chevron shape in common.

Took my puggies to the Pug Cafe in Edinburgh for some socialising and playtime. Much fun was had. Although I had to disillusion one small child who wanted to take my soul dog home with them.

Small pug sitting in a fluffy pink bed looking very smug. There is a stuffed pigeon toy on the floor.

A fawn pug being followed by three other pugs near a ball pit with pink and white balls in it. The pug at the front has a yellow toy in her mouth.

A fabulous place to visit in April

A discworld calendar showing an image of a house with a skull door knocker, a skull gnome in the garden, and fish skeletons in the pond. The pond is black, as are the weeds, trees and seats. The sky is dark purple and starry. There are two white lilies in the foreground and the words "visit death's domain - the trip of a lifetime!"

I believe the people who most need honest, independent research about enterprise data are the practitioners living inside the problem, not the vendors selling solutions to it. Today, @maureenb2b.bsky.social and I published our Enterprise Data Health Study. This is the start, not the finish.

This is heartbreaking. My daughter took her first HRT prescription to Boots and was grilled by the pharmacist about whether it was "legit", what her blood levels were, and said it was "a grey area" and to go to her local pharmacy. This was her local pharmacy.
