This had become the new normal. RNLI crew members had been forced to take their permits off their cars after their tyres have been repeatedly slashed. Most of them have been pilloried at the school gates or turned away from local pubs. As I boil up the bramble jelly, I recall my mother’s refusal to add water to the brambles for this, or the dough when making pastry. This leads to the best bramble jelly you’ll ever eat (albeit shockingly wasteful of fruit) and absolutely *concrete* pastry.
