Calling back to my Jane Austen thread about the contextual aspect of character flaws, Dickie is a character who sees all his flaws as virtues, and most of his virtues as flaws. He wouldn’t get off lightly in an Austen novel - but her perspective of his failings would be distinct from mine/ours.
