Powell interviews a local anti-homeless ghoul who notes that encampment sweeps don't result in meaningful change because homeless people just return a few days later. Yes, Michael. What is the solution to this? We should just incarcerate them forever for being homeless?

Absolutely heartbreaking letter from the mother of Alex Pretti, six months after his murder by ICE agents. How is it possible that we still haven’t seen even a hint of justice for such a heinous crime?

Funny side note on that: they put out a survey to try to get information about various offices and jobs last month. No one responded. Why would they trust that these malicious dipshits wouldn't use that data to fuck with us even more. The best part is they actually seemed surprised.

Finally, the most telling thing is that they refuse to do the employee satisfaction survey. They're that the people who know SSA the best, the employees, fucking hate this shit and have zero respect for the leadership. It's just been an endless parade of Dunning-Kruger inspired orders and self-owns.

The real reason, which everyone knows and laughs at, is he's so paranoid and stupid that he thinks people he can catch people leaving early this way. None of his sycophants told him that our badge readers don't produce a report, that we have a timekeeping system, that our computers have logs, etc.
1100
Rogue SSA @alt-ssa.altgov.info · 02/07/2026
Recently he ordered every employee to badge at the door when they finish work, trying to cite security as the reason. Our badge readers trigger our doors to open, so you basically have to guard the door and wait for it to close so people don't walk into secure areas....

Without bothering to evaluate the knowledge, skills, and practice it takes to do the job, he demanded that 800# training should be reduced from 16 weeks to 2 weeks. For context, most 800# agents aren't fully independent until after a year on the phones. The job is ridiculously hard and grinding.

Then he speaks and sounds like a certified idiot. In a managers meeting after doing away with telework, he mentioned that he teleworks, but he's allowed to because he starts at 6am. That's a normal start time for SSA employees who have to come into the office.

I honestly doubt Frank has ever had a open conversation with anyone who isn't an executive. His "Townhalls" are embarrassing clones of Trump's cabinet meetings, where his direct employees have to lavish him with unearned praise, then feed him prescreened (or phony) questions. None are in person.
1140
Rogue SSA @alt-ssa.altgov.info · 02/07/2026
The most insulting part of this letter is implying that Frank is somehow more "people focused" than @martinomalley.bsky.social was. O'Malley spent his time here in constant communication, traveling to offices all around the country and answering unscreened questions. And he acted on that feedback!

Rogue SSA @alt-ssa.altgov.info · 02/07/2026
So what we're seeing is a gradual but noticeable degradation of our systems. We have multiple background processes running on our computers that take up 30-50% of our RAM, and no one knows what they are. If you have more than a couple programs open (which you have to), they start crashing.

That's a daily struggle for anyyone in any administrative capacity, and it's had real impact repeatedly. They keep trying to roll out initiatives only to pull them back at the last minute because they find out the knock-on effects weren't taken into consideration. They didn't know who to ask.

Rogue SSA @alt-ssa.altgov.info · 02/07/2026
That haphazard/moronic change broke all of our internal lines of communication. Say you're ordered to design a solution for a particular job, so you look up the people listed as experts only to find all of them have left, been reassigned to the field, or they were moved under an unrelated division.
1152
Rogue SSA @alt-ssa.altgov.info · 02/07/2026
Then, under Frank's direction from the wings, they (according to rumor) fed our entire Org Chart into an LLM and asked it to reorganize it. This resulted in positions with similar titles, but working in entirely different fields, being combined.

Rogue SSA @alt-ssa.altgov.info · 02/07/2026
Then they threatened our Regional Office employees AGAIN with termination if they didn't take reassignment to field offices working with the public. That included IT people who had started as IT people, and had never even seen a Social Security record.

Rogue SSA @alt-ssa.altgov.info · 02/07/2026
First, DOGE-whose work destroying our workforce Frank has openly praised-threatened employees with termination unless they left voluntarily. Hundreds of our most senior IT professionals left, taking their years of experience with them.

Also, FDR was no deity, especially not to me. It says a lot that you think praise for someone's positive achievements equates to some sort of worship. The fucker rounded up innocent families and put them in concentration camps based solely on their ancestry.

This is objectively wrong. "Political Party" has legal and structural criteria. It's like saying Third Way and Blue Dogs are their own separate parties. They're not. They're loose ideological groups within an existing political party.

Rogue SSA @alt-ssa.altgov.info · 24/06/2026
Absolutely. We can't ignore that the Democratic party in FDR's time included a lot of racist confederate lost-causers who later swarmed to the GOP when the party embraced the civil rights movement.

The bottom line is DSA Dems are more in line with the party that created Social Security and Medicare than "moderates" are. What do you think today's moderate Dems would do if there was a crisis of elderly and disabled people starving and dying in poverty, and why would it be tax credits?

Now we've had multiple generations with fewer opportunities than the one before. If you're under 40, there's a pretty good chance you'll be a lifelong renter. Don't expect your kids to work their way through college, because that's insane. You won't own much, but what you do will be a debt.
1465
Rogue SSA @alt-ssa.altgov.info · 24/06/2026
When Dems would get back in power, they'd tout incrementalism as they restored portions of the programs or replaced them with tax credits that would do nothing to actually fight poverty. Then the GOP would roar back and cut even further. Rinse, repeat, until the program is beyond repair.

Rogue SSA @alt-ssa.altgov.info · 24/06/2026
Instead of aggressively defending the assistance programs and entitlements that their party had created, they let the GOP tear them to pieces, starve them to death, or gut them through poison pill legislation.

Then Reagan came along. He told all those middle class kids who had benefited directly or tangentially from those programs that there were people who didn't look like them stealing the money. Instead of giving those filthy people the benefits, we should give it to the wealthy and corporations.

Can't sleep. Gotta rant. There was a time when the Democratic party's core belief was that the government should do everything it could to alleviate people's suffering. We got the New Deal, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, SSI, Food Stamps, TANF, and much more from that party.

A cropped screenshot of an article section titled "Gary Larson cartoon incident" from a Tumblr page. The text describes a controversy involving a Far Side cartoon and Jane Goodall.

_____________

Gary Larson cartoon incident

_____________

In 1987 Gary Larson published a Far Side cartoon of two chimpanzees grooming, in which one discovers a blonde hair and says, "Conducting a little more 'research' with that Jane Goodall tramp?"[127] The Jane Goodall Institute called the cartoon an "atrocity" in a letter drafted by its lawyers to Larson and his syndicate. Goodall, who was in Africa at the time, later found the cartoon amusing.[128]

She went on to name it her favourite depiction of herself in pop culture.[129] Larson offered profits from sales of a shirt featuring the cartoon to the Jane Goodall Institute.[130]

Goodall wrote the preface to The Far Side Gallery 5, detailing her version of the controversy.[131] She praised Larson's creative ideas, which often compare and contrast the behaviour of humans and animals.

In 1988 Larson visited Goodall's research facility in Tanzania.[128] While there, he was attacked by a chimpanzee named Frodo.[127][132]
