Behaviour is also funny but also probably most correct. "Angry people are the worst drivers" is not a hard opinion to believe in.

The Reason Doug, and Rob before him, embraced the War on the Car so whole-heartedly was that their political worldview has always been "me first, fuck you" dressed up as good for all policy. Which works because that's shared by most car drivers.

Same reason he scrapped speed cameras, despite both infrastructures improving traffic, not slowing it.

Every anti-cyclist Red Pill moment is just "I saw a cyclist moving faster than car traffic, thus proving the argument that bike lanes are efficient at moving people and reducing car gridlock. This infuriated me."
ROSIE "THE HACK" DIMANNO: But unbothered by traffic, the bike lane, a hollowed-out artery smack in the middle of congested downtown Toronto, the jerk had disappeared far into the horizon, while we sat in a gridlocked snarl. We never did catch up to him. This only reinforced my view that there are way too many ignorant, nasty, entitled cyclists on Toronto streets.

Toronto bike lane removal. When your infrastructure project has huge police protection and the contractors hide the logos on their trucks and gear, you are in the wrong.

What the pro-Canada Conservatives don't seem to understand is that this sort of care and feeding of false grievances is what sustains the separatist movement. They created it. They can choose to kill it. But they have to do the work. And throughout this campaign, not a single one has chosen to.

My favourite story about penalties was Alan Shearer would practice them before games. He'd absolutely blast all attempts into the right top corner for all to see. Then he'd get a penalty kick and just blast it into the top left. Or vice versa. There was no half measure with that man.

Jason Statham makes some of the absolute best "I've got time to kill" action movies. The 80s used to be full of them. Now, if feels like it's just Statham.

Reading Mathieu Olivier of the Blue Jackets is apologizing after hitting an opponent in the balls with his stick. Maybe hockey is finally starting to mature and will be more responsible around keeping each other safe. Sorry, who'd he slash? A Panther?! THE MAN DID NOTHING WRONG! RECIND THE PENALTY

Chow could trumpet "crime is down. Look how I've supported police and safety." and those who are convinced they'll get stabbed on the TTC will just attack her for it. "Why aren't we safe with all this money you're spending?!" "Actually, you are" "I DON'T FEEL SAFE" It's lose-lose with many.

It's a good point but I'll offer another persoective: Bradford is running less a tough on crime campaign than a Toronto is Unsafe, preying on people's perceptions of danger rather then reality. You can't fact those fears away. In fact, trying usually just makes the fearful more angry.

As he let's in another one, no, I will never forgive Sam Bennett, the Panthers, nor the NHL for just allowing a player to brain a goalie for free. Last time I think I watched a game with any real care.

Stolarz almost single handedly made everyone believe Craig Berube was a good hire. Shame he's never been right since the Panthers scrambled his brain.

I get that they see it as a positive background story, but it's hard to see this coms as anything more than this:
The xkcd "someone is wrong on the internet" cartoon. A stick man is sitting at a computer.

Voice, off panel: "Are you coming to bed?"
Man "I can't. This is important."
Voice "what?"
Man "Someone is wrong on the internet."

I feel it's a real sign that Bradford is as thin skinned as reports suggest. He could just brush it off as "dumb people on the internet" but instead feels the need to correct them.

It's distressing how many online voices still want to back the current Man City team because the cheating was in the past. A fundamental willingness to award them the fruits of a decade of cheating, as they wouldn't have this team otherwise, and of which there still isn't deniable they ever stopped.

Morning all, welcome to a brand new week. So Man City remain top of the Premier League after a 3-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield yesterday. The home side were on the end of a really terrible decision which saw them go down to 10 men, after which City scored three goals. Reposting with alt text because it feels important
[Long Instagram post from Gilbert Trejo, Danny Trejo's son]

For anyone seeing this shit with my dad...

He was booked on a film, it's not pro-ice, it's not overtly pro anything. His agent described it as "a complicated story about a complicated time, where everyone looks bad except you, the hardworking Mexican shop owner who just wants peace"

He jumped at the idea of playing a good guy.

About 2 weeks into shooting everyone, including us, found out Ben Shapiro was involved.

My 82 year old dad has never heard of Ben Shapiro, I had to explain to him who that is, and what kind of guy he is.

My dad contractually can't bad mouth him, the film, or walk away without being sued for breach of contract. He couldn't even release the statement he wanted to.

It's fucked up. He's handcuffed to this stupid project, and swaths of people have instantly turned their back on him without knowing any of the facts.

Ben Shapiro got Mexicans to abandon one of their heroes, got his own name to the top of google's searches, and made us look like angry fools lacking any nuance. He wins.

As we all know, at any point during a family Thanksgiving dinner, a line can be dropped that can disrupt all festivities and replace them with argument and frustration. This year, I offer perhaps the most bizarre instance from my family: "But you know, red squirrels aren't actually squirrels."

There is a real risk that these models will do more harmful things, but the risk is not that they will "go rogue", the risk is that the gen AI companies will continue irresponsibly rushing out broken software because they think they're above the law. We can fix that problem at any time!

There's a word for software that behaves in unexpected or unintended ways - a bug. This is inadequately tested software riddled with major bugs, and that is a real and important story, but it has nothing to do with the ridiculous idea that the computers are alive.

Habs and Red Wings both played their back up goalies tonight and after three periods have combined for zero goals. That's a crime against hockey. Both teams should be removed from the league.
