Good article calling out the costs & consequences of car-centric cities. Any traffic engineer or city planner still working to lock in car dependent sprawl is guilty of professional malpractice. Arguments that “the market wants it” or “elected officials make the actual decisions” just don’t cut it.

In 2013, I read Manna by Marshall Brain and started looking for answers as to how to make the 2nd half of the book real instead of the 1st half. He supported universal basic income as the way, so I started studying it and was surprised to find all the supporting evidence screaming we should do it.

Forgiving infrastructure assumes people make mistakes. A person on a bike who loses their balance and falls shouldn't pay for it with their life just because there was no buffer between them and a vehicle 100 times their weight.
